SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
Provided to the Planning Commission
After Distribution of Packet
From: Sachiko Riddle SR 1/25/2022
To: Sachiko Riddle Date Distributed:
Subject: FW:lighthouse church permit application
Date: Tuesday,January 25,2022 11:37:25 AM
From: Marian Green .>
Sent:Tuesday,January 25, 2022 9:54 AM
To: Eric Luchini <ELuchiniPcityofpleasantonca.gov>
Subject: lighthouse church permit application
Hi Eric
I am writing to you in regard to the school plan proposed by Lighthouse Baptist Church.
We have lived next door to the church, at■ Neal St,. for 38 years and have had an amicable
relationship with the various churches that have occupied the property. The proposed school plan
submitted by Lighthouse Church came as a surprise to our neighborhood as we not made aware of this
plan prior to the notice from the city.
We do not support the proposed plan that has been described as having a negligible impact on the
neighborhood. We have very serious concerns regarding traffic, parking and safety which cannot be
described as"negligible". As far as parking and traffic are concerned, the church has only two designated
spots in front of their property on Neal St. All other nearby parking is public street parking which is
available to any one. Our neighborhood residents already make parking accommodations for the church
out of respect for their role in this historic area. In addition, the church regularly parks two vans on
Second Street. The expectation that 25 children can be dropped off and picked up, five days a week, in a
residential area with only two designated parking spots seems unsafe and unrealistic. The confusion
caused by this traffic"plan"only yards away from a 4-way stop sign will be significant and potentially
dangerous. In addition, expecting that parents and staff will consistently park blocks away is also
unrealistic. A school requires adequate parking for staff and parents and this is far from adequate.
An additional concern is the lack of a safe, fenced-in property where children can gather outdoors.
Children cannot be expected to spend seven hours per day, five days per week inside of a classroom. But
without a designated and safe area to play, what will be their"plan"? First Street, which lies less that 100
yards from the church property, is an extremely busy thoroughfare. Is that safe?
Finally, enforcement of traffic and parking cannot be left up to the residents of this neighborhood. We
believe that misuse of the public streets and available parking spaces will likely occur due to a lack of a
fair and safe alternative provided in the church's proposal.
Our downtown historic neighborhood is already disproportionately impacted by the many events held on
both Main Street and First Street. However these events positively influence the flavor and community
spirit for many, many people. So the residents of our neighborhood tolerate the disruptions because we
see the benefit to the city of Pleasanton and surrounding communities.
Please give serious consideration to the concerns of our neighborhood.
Thank you,
Marian and Mike Green
Click here to report this email as spam.
Click
jlttps//www mailcontrol com/sr/tjiS3awbKrrGX2POPOmvUrTWOOPRvz4DHMl4Yig00z1UJjiHbdjljDw2MgBzVJFJgK7MIIzWkM2n9BVBzDB66w==
to report this email as spam
therefore, deviating from a strict or literal interpretation and enforcement of PMC
Section 18.88.050 should not be required.
first finding can be made.
P21-0715/P22-0126, Lighthouse Baptist School Planning Commission
9 of 13
ll applicable City permits for the
;r? eoperation.,
a •,_ •;;;.! .3:S.t^ prior to the commencement of o;Ft!'u
•
r '.ti . ii "I' 6. tic alcohol shell be consumed outside e the establishment.
.
;- - nee,',. 7.
