P. 0. Box
Pleasanton A 94566-0093
January 24, 2022
Eric Luchini, Senior Planner
City of Pleasanton
P. 0. Box 520
Pleasanton, CA 94566
Dear Mr. Luchini,
We are contacting you in regard to P21-0715 Lighthouse Baptist School, 118 Neal Street,
application for Conditional Use Permit. We are very much opposed to a school operating at this
site. We have owned property across the street from the church since the 1960's, and parking
has become a huge problem. The church has no onsite parking and all their employees,
volunteers and workers park on Neal Street. On Sunday of course, there are all the church
attendees. They also own a van which is parked at various locations around the neighborhood.
In addition some vehicles from the Pleasanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 300 Neal
Street and those from downtown businesses park on Neal Street between First and Second
Streets. We are also concerned about the safety of potential students at this location on a very
busy street and the potential additional traffic generated by parents dropping off and picking
up their students. The church building proposed for use as a school was built in 1876 and the
addition made in the early 1900's. It just seems that there must be a better, safer alternative
location for the school.
During the time we have owned the property on Neal Street, the City of Pleasanton has
removed several parking spaces for "improvements" leaving us with a very limited number of
spaces on Neal Street.
Thank you for your consideration of our concerns about parking, traffic and safety in regard to
the application for a Conditional Use Permit by the Lighthouse Baptist Church for a school.
Sincerely,
46).4.
Cynthia Ostle
that parents and staff will consistently park blocks away is also
unrealistic. A school requires adequate parking for staff and parents and this is far from adequate.
An additional concern is the lack of a safe, fenced-in property where children can gather outdoors.
Children cannot be expected to spend seven hours per day, five days per week inside of a classroom. But
without a designated and safe area to play, what will be their"plan"? First Street, which lies less that 100
yards from the church property, is an extremely busy thoroughfare. Is that safe?
Finally, enforcement of traffic and parking cannot be left up to the residents of this neighborhood. We
believe that misuse of the public streets and available parking spaces will likely occur due to a lack of a
fair and safe alternative provided in the church's proposal.
Our downtown historic neighborhood is already disproportionately impacted by the many events held on
both Main Street and First Street. However these events positively influence the flavor and community
spirit for many, many people. So the residents of our neighborhood tolerate the disruptions because we
see the benefit to the city of Pleasanton and surrounding communities.
Please give serious consideration to the concerns of our neighborhood.
Thank you,
Marian and Mike Green
Click here to report this email as spam.
Click
jlttps//www mailcontrol com/sr/tjiS3awbKrrGX2POPOmvUrTWOOPRvz4DHMl4Yig00z1UJjiHbdjljDw2MgBzVJFJgK7MIIzWkM2n9BVBzDB66w==
to report this email as spam
therefore, deviating from a strict or literal interpretation and enforcement of PMC
Section 18.88.050 should not be required.
first finding can be made.
P21-0715/P22-0126, Lighthouse Baptist School Planning Commission
9 of 13
ll applicable City permits for the
;r? eoperation.,
a •,_ •;;;.! .3:S.t^ prior to the commencement of o;Ft!'u
•
r '.ti . ii "I' 6. tic alcohol shell be consumed outside e the establishment.
.
;- - nee,',. 7.
