Project Grants
<br />The Education Advisory Board awarded 12 Project Grants to the following projects:
<br />Project Grant #: 24-29 Oakland Unified School District, Special Staffing Support: Compost & Food Systems for OUSD
<br />Schools, Oakland, West County, $20,000.00- Funds from this grant will be used to cover part of the salary of the Garden & Compost
<br />Specialist at Oakland Unified School District. The new staff member that will be hired for this project will contribute to The Center’s
<br />work on key issues related to composting & waste reduction, garden cultivation, and TK-12 youth education and career exposure on
<br />these subjects.
<br />Project Grant #: 24-30 Rebuilding Together East Bay North (RTEBN), ECO (Estate Clean Out), Berkeley, West County,
<br />$27,000.00- Funds from this grant will be used to address the critical challenges surrounding waste diversion of household goods for
<br />reuse and access to employment for marginalized individuals.
<br />Project Grant #: 24-31 Fixit Clinic, County-wide Chromebook Rescue, Berkeley, West County, $15,450.00- Funds from this
<br />grant will be used to assist Alameda County schools and school districts in keeping Chromebooks in service in the communities by
<br />teaching and empowering students to convert Chromebooks into general purpose computers.
<br />Project Grant #: 24-32 Center for Environmental Health (CEH), The Road to Reusables, Oakland, West County, $30,000.00-
<br />Funds from this grant will be used to target schools in Alameda County to provide education and implementation resources that
<br />promote reusables, prevent waste in both food and food ware, and ideally implement reusables that can be effectively recycled at the
<br />end of their life.
<br />Project Grant #: 24-33 The East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse, Castoffs to Classrooms-Continued, Oakland, West County,
<br />$27,000.00- Funds from this grant will be used to educate businesses and manufacturers on responsible disposable of discarded
<br />materials; to divert reusable materials from the landfill by collecting discarded items from businesses and manufacturers; to provide
<br />reusable materials to educators at low-or-no-cost; to teach educators the many ways reuse can be incorporated into their classrooms,
<br />and provide a physical space for reuse and repair workshops.
<br />Project Grant #: 24-34 Berkeley Public Schools Fund, Waste Themed Climate Action Projects in BUSD Climate Literacy,
<br />Berkeley, West County, $23,000.00- Funds from this grant will be used to support classroom projects that actively engage students in
<br />waste diversion and reduction in K-8 schools in BUSD; collaborate between the Sustainability Department (maintenance and
<br />facilities) and Climate Literacy (Education Services) can be a successful holistic approach to whole school sustainability.
<br />Project Grant #: 24-35 The Go Green Initiative, Delivering in Hayward Unified School District (AB 341, 1826 and SB 1383),
<br />Pleasanton, East County, $40,000.00- Funds from this grant will be used to continue its work with Hayward Unified School District
<br />and deliver on the progress that is underway to implement 3-bin systems, train students and staff to prevent and reduce waste, and
<br />institutionalize integrated waste management in the district.
<br />Project Grant #: 24-36 Alameda Food Bank, Full Circle Green Waste Diversion, Alameda, West County, $20,000.00- Funds
<br />from this grant will be used to increase the capacity to receive perishable food items and redistribute them for human consumption as
<br />quickly as possible.
<br />Project Grant #: 24-37 Earth Team, Waste Action Project-WAP 2.0, Richmond, West County, $28,000.00- Funds from this
<br />grant will be used to provide 56 paid student interns and four schools with the support and resources they need to assess their campus’
<br />waste and recycling behaviors accurately and to take action to change those behaviors and the overall school culture regarding
<br />consumption and waste while developing a new TRADE/OVTA trash assessment standard that could be replicated in other schools.
<br />Project Grant #: 24-38 Empowerment Works c/o WasteWhat, Expanding Community Access to Refillable, Healthy, Zero-
<br />Waste Grocery by Adopting EBT, Oakland, West County, $20,000.00- Funds from this grant will be used to increase accessibility
<br />to low-waste services for the greater community by qualifying for Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) in the state of California,
<br />ensuring that the waste-reduction grocery offerings are accessible to individuals from diverse economic backgrounds.
<br />Project Grant #: 24-39 Robot Garden, Fixit Clinic Expansion & Student Internships, Livermore, East County, $18,000.00-
<br />Funds from this grant will be used to expand the internship program for participating high school and Las Positas College students
<br />teach a new generation of techs and engineers about product design, repairability, sustainability and waste reduction.
<br />Project Grant #: 24-40 Common Vision, Regeneration Nation, Berkeley, West County, $25,076.00- Funds from this grant will be
<br />used to spark and grow a movement for Regeneration Nation; support the regeneration of health soil by teaching kids how to compost;
<br />teach recycling to elementary school children; support SB1383 by distributing recovered food at 4 garden and community sites;
<br />produce an already scripted and planned MamaWanda garden video on worm composting and food waste reduction in schools and an
<br />additional Regeneration Nation video.
