<br />Mini-Grant #: 24-16 Local Ecology and Agriculture Fremont (LEAF), Urban Garden Education Center: Building healthy soil
<br />and communities, Fremont, West County, $5,000.00 - Funds will be used to focus on soil health and composting to produce a
<br />thriving garden that localizes the food supply chain, waste reduction efforts, and composting as well as setting the foundation for
<br />educational programs in soil science.
<br />Mini-Grant #: 24-17 Alameda Point Collaborative, New Bins for Better Waste Prevention, Recycling and Composting
<br />Programs, Alameda, West County, $5,000.00 - Funds will be used to roll-out an education program that includes newsletters,
<br />posters and signage that will help educate the community to help minimize the amount of waste ending up in a landfill as well as host
<br />weekly breakfast meetings and a monthly community meeting for residents.
<br />Mini-Grant #: 24-18 Ecology Center, Reusable Foodware Educational Campaign, Berkeley, West County, $5,000.00 - Funds
<br />will be used to educate East Bay community members on the negative impacts of single use disposable foodware use by using both
<br />digital and in-person outreach through social media, blogs and/or op-eds, table at local events and at least one event solely dedicated
<br />to the topic.
<br />Mini-Grant #: 24-19 Collective Resilience, Zero Waste at Resilience Hubs and Spaces, Santa Rosa, West County, $4,000.00 -
<br />Funds will be used to compile online resources focused on waste reduction, provide a waste audit and funding for new waste reduction
<br />infrastructure for at least two sites developing as resilience hubs and to share about waste reduction at resilience hubs with new
<br />audiences.
<br />Mini-Grant #: 24-20 Lincoln Middle School, Green Leadership Club, Alameda, West County, $5,000.00 - Funds will be used to
<br />fund teacher time for a new lunchtime schoolwide Green leadership Club as well as a stipend for staff time and a stipend for an
<br />assistant teacher to co-lead.
<br />Mini-Grant #: 24-21 urban university, Single Moms Sewing Project, Oakland, West County, $5,000.00 - Funds will be used to
<br />support a 12-week job training component that creates community awareness of the impact of fashion on the environment, mitigates
<br />the impact of landfill operations through the upcycling of clothing textiles into new consumer products, and offer the City of Oakland
<br />a community-based solution.
<br />Mini-Grant #: 24-22 Community Action for a Sustainable Alameda, Alameda Reusables To Go Expansion #1, Alameda, West
<br />County, $4,875.00 - Funds will be used to pilot to more cafes and Boba shops throughout Alameda to expand the project using the
<br />same technology to include reusable food ware and catering packs.
<br />Mini-Grant #: 24-23 Community Action for a Sustainable Alameda, Alameda Reusables To Go Expansion #2, Alameda, West
<br />County, $4,680.00 - Funds will be used to pilot to more cafes and Boba shops throughout Alameda and to expand the project using
<br />the same technology to include reusable food ware and reusable hot cups and cold cups.
<br />Mini-Grant #: 24-24 Bay Area Redwood, Reclaimed Wood Compost Bins for Altamont Summer Concert Series, Hayward,
<br />West County, $5,000.00 - Funds will be used to design, supply materials and fabricate 10 reclaimed wood bins to be used in the
<br />Vasco Row Commercial Zone in the City of Livermore.
<br />Mini-Grant #: 24-25 Wee Poets, Wee Poets, Berkeley, West County, $3,000.00 - Funds will be used to produce 2, 30-minute
<br />videotapes about recycling to spread the word about recycling to millions of children and adults.
<br />Mini-Grant #: 24-26 Mission San Jose High School-Special Education Department, Composting in our Classrooms, Fremont,
<br />West County, $5,000.00 - Funds will be used to develop a composting program to help reduce green waste in the school by
<br />composting kitchen and cooking scraps in the classroom.
<br />Mini-Grant #: 24-27 St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, Revitalization of the Big Heart Garden, Livermore, East County,
<br />$3,000.00 - Funds will be used to fund stipends and provide education to the volunteers that provide food weekly to approximately
<br />120 individuals.
<br />Mini-Grant #: 24-28 Tri-Valley Haven, Support for Tri-Valley Haven’s Food Pantry Grocery Rescue Program, Livermore,
<br />East County, $3,000.00 - Funds will be used to pay for additional hours to a dedicated staff driver that assists with the grocery reuse
<br />program by picking up recovered food six days a week from at least nine grocery stores. The driver will be able to increase staff hours
<br />to 200 more hours a year, thus increases the food distributed to families in need.
<br />The total 2024 Expenditure Plan budget of $135,000 for Mini-Grants was approved by the Board along with the option to
<br />carry over all unexpended funds from previous grant years and expend if necessary. A total of $127,417.46 in Mini-Grants
<br />was approved.
