MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
2. Introductions/ Awards /Recognitions /Presentations
Ms. Andrade -Wax informed everyone that Mr. Jorgensen would be receiving a special
recognition for his work in the Arts. The presentation will be made on Thursday, March 4,
2010 at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore. Members of the Commission were invited to
attend.
3. Public Comment from the Audience regarding items not listed on the agenda.
There were none.
PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS
4. Approval of the revised design for a transit related art mural.
Ms. Finegan provided some background information regarding the Bus Shelter Mural project
being undertaken by students of Foothill High School. She reminded Commissioners that at
the December 7, 2009 meeting, the Commission had voted on three (3) designs presented by
the students, had selected one (1) of the designs and made some suggested modifications. At
this meeting the Commission was being asked to review the modifications made by the
students so the students could enlarge the design to the scale of the shelter's back panels.
The students and their teacher reviewed the design with Commissioners and advised that this
design incorporated some of the elements of the three (3) original designs reviewed by the
Commission. The design included the Ace train, hot air balloons, a bunny, street signs,
flowers, the Foothill High School Falcon, scientific abstract elements, etc.
The Commission was informed that work on the project was done after school and during
lunch breaks.
Commissioner Hess suggested the students include some element in the design that would be
indicative of the new Firehouse Arts Center.
Commissioner Molz felt the size of the bunny in the design was too large and should be made
smaller. Commissioner Hess agreed and thought it should be Tess dominant and could be
chocolate colored.
Several Commissioners also felt that the abstract element needed to be changed and the
Falcon could be removed and replaced with some visual element related to the Firehouse Arts
Center.
A motion was made by Commissioner Rivera, seconded by Commissioner Hess, to approve
the revised design for the Transit Related Art Mural with the recommendations made by
members of the Commission being incorporated into the final design.
Civic Arts Commission
March 1, 2010
Page 2
