Commissioner Casey expressed his concern about not hearing anything from REACH
about a dollar- for dollar match of funds. Commissioner Stark also asked about the
maximum federal per -unit subsidy for HOME funds.
Mr. Erickson provided Chairperson Mermelstein with information regarding the length of
time it would take the City to provide the funds to REACH once a property has been
identified. Mr. Erickson advised that funds could be made available as soon as approved
by the City Council because there are already sufficient funds from prior year allocations
by the County.
Commissioner Stark reminded everyone that the City Council will need to approve the
recommendation made by this Commission. Mr. Erickson advised that recommendations
will be presented to City Council at its meeting of April 20.
Commissioner Stark discussed the options and benefits of REACH purchasing another
BMR unit. Commissioner Harris felt REACH had received a large amount of funding
from the City over the years and his choice would be to provide more funding for
Neighborhood Solutions.
A motion was made by Commissioner Harris, seconded by Commissioner Stark,
recommending the $150,000 in HOME funds for REACH, $90,000 in HOME funds for
Neighborhood Solutions, and a total of $86,500 in LIHF funds to Abode Services, ECHO
Housing, and CRIL.
ROLL CALL VOTE:
AYES: Commissioners Harris and Stark
NOES: Commissioners Casey, Lopez, and Chairperson Mermelstein
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None
The motion failed.
A motion was then made by Commissioner Casey, seconded by Chairperson
Mermelstein, recommending the $200,000 in HOME funds for REACH, $40,000 in
HOME funds for Neighborhood Solutions, and a total of $86,500 in LIHF funds to
Abode Services, ECHO Housing, and CRIL for fiscal year 2010.
ROLL CALL VOTE:
AYES: Commissioners Casey, Lopez, Stark, and Chairperson Mermelstein.
NOES: Commissioner Harris
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None
The motion passed.
Page 4
