<br />The Clerk then presented the following reports of the municipal officers:
<br />Water Department: -- Showing that water had been turned on
<br />places. Repaired valve on Pleasanton Avenue and Ray 5tr
<br />First'3treet and repaired 2 hydrants. The report showed
<br />town and 38 outside of town. There were 499 services in
<br />42 services outside of town (On 8, .Off 4)9 total number
<br />from 'the .department amounted to 6990:.39` .and the expenses
<br />and above expenses of $553.20. Total hours pumping 104,
<br />3,120,000.

<br />Town Clerk: -- Showing that he had delivered 1 license for collection amounting to $12.00
<br />and 466 water bills amounting to $1094.25. The biance cash on hand per last report
<br />amounted to $14312.86 and, since -then the following collections had 'been made: Licenses
<br />from marshal - $108.00, taxes from Marshal $654.82, water bills from marshal $869.15,
<br />water sold.Alameda County $7.65; milk inspection fees from Marshal $45.509 from Town
<br />Clerk: Personal Property Taxes X7:70, Cruikshank cc Kolln on account street work $1.50,
<br />Bank of America interest $2.52 making a total -of $16,009.70; -less:-.-Amount of warrants
<br />issued December 6, 1937 $3439io31, leaving a cash balance in the hands of the T re`osurer
<br />of $12,570.39. This was divided as follows: General Fund $9676.65,. "Water Bond Fund
<br />$580.169 City Mall Bond Fund $13.47i 1929 Municipal Improvement Bond Fund $1381.71,
<br />Municipal Improvement Bond Fund $918.38.
<br />Superintendent a Streets:- -The report showed that wcjrk on the streets for the month
<br />of December amounted to 178:136 The expenses of the department for the month amounted
<br />to $72:86.
<br />Town Marshal : -- Showing that he received 466 water bills from the Ulerk amounting to
<br />1094.25. He collected water bills amounting to $869.15 and returned water bills amount-
<br />ing to $225.10. He also collected licenses amounting to $108.00 and milk inspection
<br />fees amounting to $45.50 and taxes amounting to $654.82.
<br />Treasurer: - -The Water Deposit Fund had $92.00 on hand per last report and sincethen-
<br />12.50 had been received making a total of $1,04:50, less $2.50 paid out, leavirg $102.00
<br />in the Water Deposit Fund. There was $15.99 in the Water Hurplus Fund. There was
<br />$151.97 in the ,Curb. and Gutter Project Fund. The, 'General Fund had $14312.86 on hand
<br />per last report and since then $1696.84 had been received making a total of $16009.70
<br />less $3439.31 paid out., leaving $12570.39 in the General Fund., '
<br />City Judge:- -The report showed that no fines had been collected during the month.
<br />Fire,Chief :- -The report showed the activities of the department for the month of
<br />December, 1937•
<br />Milk Inspector: -- Showing laboratory report on milk samples for December, 1937.
<br />Ashton Britten: -- Showing laboratory report of work done at sewer farm during the
<br />month of December.
<br />The reports were referred to the finance committee for audit and report.
<br />The following communication.was then read:
<br />December 1st=- 0alifornia Sewage Works Association, notifying the Council that dues
<br />in the Association for -the year 1938 and amounting to $2.00 were due and payable.
<br />Before calling a recess Mayor Orloff introduced Mrs. nary A. Stovall and Mrs.
<br />Rollie Harris of the Woman's Improvement Club. Mrs. Stovall stated to the Council that
<br />she and Mrs. Harris had called relative to trees to be planted and also to submit
<br />certain information, which they had at hand. Mrs. Harris explained that the Improve-
<br />ment Club committee was endeavoring to select a tree which as it grew would not force
<br />up the sidewalk. Also that the Club had ascertained that the California Nursery at
<br />Niles would allow a discount of twenty per cent on trees.purebased and the Coates
<br />Nursery at San Jose a fifteen per cent discount. She also stated that various types
<br />of trees such as redwood and silver birch and silver maple etc. would be most desirable
<br />and that a heavy tree would not be required. Both Mrs. Stovall and Mrs. Harris stated
<br />that funds would be available from private parties who desired to set out trees.
<br />Mayor Orloff explained to the committee that the council favored a uniform planting;
<br />and was very pleased to have the Ulub co- operate with it. It was decided that any
<br />money to be recieved for trees should be paid to the Woman's Improvement Club and
<br />included with their donation to the town. The matter of purchasing the trees was
<br />referred to Councilman Trimingham and Superintendent of Streets, Manuel Rodrigtes
<br />who were to discuss further with the Improvement Club committee just what was desired.
<br />Councilman Madsen asked that a few trees be planted at the sewer farm in order to carry
