The Clerk-reported to the Council that
he did not receive an answer from the committee, but since the last.meeting he had
a query from City'Attorney Callaghan of Livermore as tU what Pleasanton was going
to do. Also Mr. Callaghan reported that the City Council in Livermore did not
plan to make any contribution to the work regardless information circulated to the
work regardless information circulated to the contrary. *fhe Mayor then queried
Councilman Amaral as to whether he had any further information on the matter.
Councilman Amaral reported that at a meeting which he attended several weeks ago
when-the matter was brought up, it was stated at that time by various representatives
of the committees at-the meeting that the.various ones would contribute approximately
the sums previously mentioned. Councilman Madsen asked Mr. Amaral- -how the represent-
atives were selected wTQen the Metropolitan Oakland committee was first organized.
Councilman Amaral stated that in the bay region the heads of various organizations
were brought together and that it was his opinion that the Oakland Chamber of
Commerce had originally taken -the-lead in the initial organizing. After a short
discussion,by the Council action was temporarily delayed.
Councilman Madsen of the Public Utilities Committee reported progress.
Councilman Amaral of the Laws and Judiciary Committee took up`the matter of the
garbage situation. He reported that-the privilege that had been accorded to Dominic
Zunino were, revoked as of December 31st and that about two.weeks prior to that slate
he' had the clerk communicate with Mr. Zunino to the affect that the privilege he
enjoyed would be revoked: Councilman Amaral further reported that after taking the
matter up with Mayor Orloff and speaking to some of the other members of the Council
it was decided that Clyde Potvin would be allowed to take care of the work and that,
he*was ordered to begin his activities as of January 3. On motion of Councilman Amaral,
seconded by Councilman Madsen and with all the Councilmen in favor of same it was
officially ordered that,-'Clyde Potvin be granted the privilege of gathering the
garbage within the city limits of Pleasanton and that the Clerk should write him
to that affect.
Councilman Amaral advised that the State Board of Equalization was holding an
open, meeting in Oakland on Wednesday evening January 5th, at which meeting city
officials and-those holding licenses were urged to attend. Councilman Trimingham reported that .Frank Garatti was intending
to improve the driveway into his new winery and that it was probable that a locust
tree in the vicinity of same would have to be removed. He also reported that on
St. Johns's Street there was a locust tree covered with ivy that was in a dangerous
condition-and that same should be removed. Councilman Madsen stated that he was
willing to'have all old trees removed providing that new trees be procured where
desirable. There was no objection from 'the Council to removing such trees as
should be taken out.
Councilman Madsen reported to the Council that a survey had been made of
recent date by the co.unty with regards the creek bed on the north and west sides
of town. He stated that the creek bed at the main Street bridge.had been consider-
ably low and that the county had certain work done to improve conditions there. He
further stated that it was noticeable that further work would have to be done and
he thought at this time that the Council should show some co- operation in the
matter and that it should be made a matter of record.
Mayor Orloff queried the Clerk with regards the street lights and asked that
they again be taken care of. The Clerk reported that following the last meeting
of the C "ouricil that he had spoken to Mr. G: H. Saunders, manager of the P.G.&E.
Goo. of Livermore and that Mr. Saunders had expected then to have a report at an
early date.
The Clerk reported to the Council that the 4H Club of Pleasanton had suggested
an ever green tree to be planted in the memory of Ole Olesen at the high school
as Mr. Olesen had preferred ever green trees. There was some question as to plant-
ing a variety of redwood trees but no decision was reached other than the Council
would allow a sum sufficient to permit a good tree being planted and that the
selection"of the tree should be reached by Councilman Ttimingham and Superintendent
of Streets Rodrigues.
The following resolutions were then presented:
07
