1206
Mr. Jorgensen appeared on behalf of the Junior Chamber of Commerce with reference
to the sign matter, which had been heard before the Council on two previous occasions.
Councilman Amaral made a report with regards .to .what other municipalities were doing
as regards signs and principally those owned and maintained by the municipality. Some
of the Councilmen were averse to any guaranty being made as regards a definite sum for
a sign located outside the city limits. After a discussion on same, Councilman Rivolta
moved that an advertising fund be set up as of July 1, 1937 in the amount of $200.00,
said fund to be available for assisting with the maintance of the sign and such other
advertising propositions as the council might entertain. His motion was seconded by
Councilman Amaral with all the Councilmen in favor of same. The Clerk spoke in behalf
of the Fund and the necessity of occasionally hearing from the Junior Chamber of Commerce
with regards to what was being expended etc. from its- private.funds as well as the
money allowed by the Council, it being understood that from the a vertising fund a.imaxiffium
$150.00 would be turned over to the Junior - Chamber of.Commerce„a various times during
the fiscal year-. George Hansen, president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce expressed
the appreciation of the organization for the help given by-the Council and also threw
attention to the fact that the sign would be a,-Junior Chamber of Commerce sign. He also
brought to the attention of the Council the necessity of stimulating business in the
community and advertising it more extensive) y. At the conclusion of his remarks the
Mayor queried Attorney Nilson in regards to what might be expended for•advertieang
purposes and City Attorney Nilson reported that funds might be expended from receipts
received towards advertising etc. and concurred with the Clerk in somuch as where
funds were expended that there should be some record available of what had been done
with them.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 10 o'clock to meet in
regular session, Monday evening, May 3d at 8 o'clock.
Approved:
Pleasanton, California, May 3, 1937.
The Town Council of the Town of Pleasanton was culled to order at. 8:00 o'clock on
the above written date with Mayor `rhos. Orloff presiding: Present at roll call were
Councilman Rivolta, Dlesen and Orloff. Councilman Madsen and Amaral were late.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and slight corrections were ordered
made with regards to the part time special officer to be employed by the municipality
as traffic officer etc. Also with reference to the $150.00 to be turned over to the
Junior Chamber of Commerce for the sign. In the, former regard it was understood that
Councilman Amaral was to have the privilege of considering applicants etc. and making
such recommendations to the Council as he saw f.it. As regards the latter, it was
understood that a maximum of 0150.00 would be paid to the Junior Chamber of Commerce
for the maintenance of the sign, said sum to be divided and payable at various times
during the fiscal year.
The Clerk then presented Claims No'438 -to 472 inclusive and amounting to $1069.99
as follows:
Claim No. 433 -- Pacific Gas &; Electric Co., electricity
$173.14
434 -- It n n n ►t t► r► IT it
3.50
435 -- 11 11 it it it it rt rl it
11.63
436 -- IT IT " " r' " IT power
80.26
437 -- n n n n n n n IT
7.79
438 -- IT If n n IT n if n
50
439 -- " " it " " " If electricity
.04
440 -- n it if IT if It It it it
2.08
441 -- It n n n n it IT gas
2.26
442 -- Elizabeth S.
