His motion was seconded by Councilman Madsen and with all the Councilmen
in favor of same, the claims were ordered paid. Councilman Rivolta also reported that
the officers' monthly reports were accepted and moved that they be placed on file.
Action on the communications were then taken as follows:
December 16, 1955, Dixwell Pierce,,Secretary State Board of Equalization. The Clerk
advised that all of the information desired by Mr. Pierce had been
forwarded to the Sacramento office.
December 20, 1935, City of Berkeley. Filed.
December 26 and 30, 1935: City of San Leandro. Filed.
January 6, 1935: T.-H. Silver, Secretary- Treasurer for the Pleasanton Fire Department.
After a short discussion relative to this communication, Councilman
.Amaral moved that the municipality pay the Fire Department its
allotment for the years 1933 and 1934 and amounting to $240.00.
Councilman.Rivolta seconded the motion and all the councilmen were
in favor of same. Mayor
Orloff also refened to the matter and conversation with Mr. Britten some months ago
with regards services etc. to be rendered the town. Mayor Orloff expressed himself
as being willing to settle with Mr. Britten, but that same should not have any bearing
on future bills which he would bring in. Mr. Britten thereupon explained the.situation
as it had existed during the past couple of years, but more particularly of recent
months. Also what work he had been doing and the expenses incurred. Councilman Madsen
drew the attention of the Council to the expenses at the sewer farm which he figured
was among the lowest, if not the lowest of any sewer farm in the state. He expressed
himself as being willing to pay IYIr. Britten a reasonable amount for his services and
expenses incurred. Councilman Rivolta felt that an agreement should be entered into
between the Council and Mr. Britten to do the work at the sewer farm at a specified
sum so that each month the Council might know what -it will be costing it to avail
itself of Mr. Britten's services since the past three months had shown an increase
month by month. Some discussion followed with reference to the matter, but no
action was taken. At,the conclusion of the discussion, on motion of Councilman Madsen
seconded by Councilman Rivolta and with all in favor of same, it was moved that the
claim of Ashton Britten for $39.50, Claim No: 319 be paid and the clerk was instructed
to draw a warrant for same.
Mr. Uliano.was present at the meeting and he explained to the Council why he
had been unable.to attend previous meetings. Mayor Orloff advised him that it would
be necessary for him to appear before the Council when his licenses were to be renewed
and at which time action would be taken. The Clerk then advised the Mayor that -lair.
Uliano's soft drink license had expired on December 31, 1935 and that his Restaurant
license would expire on March 31, 1936. After some little discussion among the
Councilmen in the presence of Mr. Uliano, Mr. Uliano was advised that he would be
notified with reference to its disposition. Later in the.session.the.Council again
refereed to the Uliano matter and Councilman Amaral explained his opinion of what
should be done, reoommending that the Board-issue no further licenses to Mr. Uliano
and that the State Board of Equalization be notified of its action. A short discussion
followed on the matter between the Council and ;Chief -of- Police Delucchi, who: advised
that at the present time that Mr. Uliano had only an "On Sale" Beer and Wine license
in this city. The Council instructed the Clerk to advise Mr. Uliano by letter that
a soft drink license would not be issued him.
Mr. Jose Rose was present at the meeting and discussed with the Board the securing
of certain tanks used on the Ford truck which had been wrecked some months ago and
since dismantled. The equipment which Mr. Rose was - anxious to secure, he advised
that he intended to mount at his own expense and keept at Santa Rita for use in
fighting fire in the outside district. He stated that probably $125.00 would be
spent by him but that he felt'tbat such an outfit, located in his neighborhood, would
be invaluable. A very lengthy,Ydiscussion followed with reference to the equipment
and what would be done about it and at the conclusion of the discussion Councilman
Madsen moved that Fire Commissioner Rivolta be authorized to sell certain "junk"
from the Ford Truck now on hand and consisting principally of chemical tanks.
Councilman Amaral seconded the motion and all the councilmen were in favor of
same.
Charles Rathbone of Ray street appeared before the Council with reference to
street lights and mentioned that the lights should be left on later in the
winter mornings than 6 o'clock. He stated it was still dark at 6:45 and that the
lights should not be shut off until 7 o'clock. Mr. Rodrigues advised with reference
to the Pacific Gas 'a Electric Company sbbedules, which every year was on hand,
with reference to the lights, and lie advised that the Pacific Gas & Electric Company
would be only too willing to let them on until 7 o'clock during the winter months.
Councilman Madsen of the Public Utilities committee advised the Council that
Mr. I rimingham had been engaged to paiint the pump house.
