Section 19. Probationary Period <br /> <br />19.1 <br /> <br />Length of Probationary Period <br /> <br />Except as specified in Appendix A, original appointments <br />shall be tentative and subject to a probationary period <br />of twelve (12) months actual service. All promotional <br />appointments shall be tentative and subject to a pro- <br />bationary period of six (6) months actual service. The <br />City Council may by resolution establish a longer pro- <br />bationary period for specified classes. <br /> <br />19.2 <br /> <br />Notification Requirements <br /> <br />A probationary employee shall be notified by the Personnel <br />Officer forty-five (45) days prior to the expiration date <br />of his/her probationary period. <br /> <br />Within twenty-one (21) days prior to the expiration date <br />of the probationary period, the department head shall <br />file with the Personnel Officer a statement as to whether <br />or not the probationary employee shall be retained in the <br />position. <br /> <br />An employee who is not rejected prior to the completion of <br />the prescribed probationary period shall be deemed to <br />have passed the prescribed probation period automati- <br />cally subject to the provisions of Section 19.3. <br /> <br />19.3 <br /> <br />Extension of Probationary Period <br /> <br />The probationary period may be extended once by the <br />Personnel Officer for a period not to exceed ninety (90) <br />days in order to further evaluate the performance of the <br />probationary employee. <br /> <br />19.4 <br /> <br />Rejection of Probationary Employee - Original Appoihtment <br /> <br />The City Manager may terminate a probationary-employee <br />during the probationary period upon fifteen (15) days <br />written notice without right of appeal in any manner by <br />the probationary employee. <br /> <br />19.5 <br /> <br />Rejection of Probationary Employee - Promotional Appointment <br /> <br />Any employee rejected during the probationary period <br />following a promotional appointment or at the conclusion <br />of the probationary period may be reinstated to a vacant <br />position in the class from which he/she was promoted at <br />the discretion of the department head. <br /> <br />During the first three (3) months of his/her probationary <br />period, the employee shall have the option of returning to <br />the position he/she previously held. <br /> <br />-31- <br /> <br /> <br />
