5.&6.

WECO's capacity for innovation is unusual. Among its past
accomplishments are the first production of transistors and the
first industrial use of the laser. Among WECO's pioneering
work was the development of sophisticated machinery to make
ultra-transparent glass fibers for the transmission systems of
the future. About 40 percent of WECO's current sales to the
Bell System is comprised of products introduced in the last
five years.

As a manufacturing and supply unit of the Bell System, WECO is
the largest supplier of telephone products in the world. In
the United States, WECO employs some 140,000 people in 27
manufacturing locations and some 40 service and supply centers,
strategically located throughout the country.

Volume base of product and number of systems installed - As of
September 1982 in the State of California, over 2000 Central
Office CENTREXes were working with the number of lines
exceeding 780,000.

Ratio of service people to installed systems - See Section IX,
D - 2.

Commitment to ongoing service and support - A direct quote from
R. E. Scharman, Vice President of Marketing, "Pacific Telephone
stands totally committed to the maintenance and further
enhancement of CENTREX service. I promise you this in full
confidence, because I'm aware of the substantial efforts in
research and development - and significant capital investment -
which Pacific Telephone is devoting to this important service."

Control of property/support - CENTREX hardware is the property
of Pacific Telephone. As such, keeping the equipment current
remains Pacific Telephone's responsibility. With CENTREX
service, the customer has the benefit of new technology without
the burden of capital investment required to continually update
facilities. Protection agains obsolescence makes CENTREX an
extremely wise investment.

QUALITY ASSURANCE AND RELIABILITY
All equipment for the Centrex are manufactured by WECO. Prior
to shipping, the Centrex is factory tested by WECO and Bell
Telephone Laboratories engineers and technicians. Load
testing, component testing, system testing, and heat testing
performed. The results of these and other tests must meet or
exceed WECO and Bell Telephone Laboratories standards. The
CENTREX will then be disassembled, to the extent necessary for
packing and shipping, and then directly shipped to Pacific
Telephone's staging area.

The System will be be reassembled as appropriate per the
Western Electric Installation Handbook and established Bell
System Practices. Pacific Telephone technicians will then test
all hardware and software using Bell System Practices. Tests
