Commissioner Detweiler questioned whether there was any collaboration between Faster Seals and the <br />REACH and RADD programs and whether there was any duplication of services provided. Ms. Reeve <br />provided resource details and opportunities provided by the different agencies. <br />Axis Community Health, Sue Compton -thanked the Commission for its continued support of Axis and <br />advised that its Women's Health Clinic project should be completed sometime in May. Ms. Compton <br />advised that fiords were being sought for the health Care for Uninsured Pleasanton Families program so <br />that medical care can be provided to uninsured and low-income Pleasanton families. The funds requested <br />for this program would assist with the salary and fringe benefit costs for an Enrollment and Eligibility <br />Specialist. <br />Commissioner Rowland contirmcd that the requested amount would cover the salary cost for one person <br />to work one day per week. <br />Ms. Compton advised Commissioner Tenbrink that Axis has seen an increase in the number of people <br />applying for services at the Center. <br />Ms. Compton advised that the second funding request for Axis is for its Outpatient Drug and Alcohol <br />Recovery Services. The amount being requested is proportionate to the number of people served in each <br />city in the "fri-Valley. Shc advised that the $38,000 requested is to assist with the renovation of the <br />Behavioral Health Services building that would enable Axis to increase its capacity to provide affordable <br />drug and alcohol recovery services. <br />The Commission was advised by Ms. Compton that progress on the teen drug and alcohol program was <br />being held up because of budgetary issues in Sacramento. <br />Legal Assistance for Seniors, Francel D'Andrea/Attorney ,Terry Garin - offered thanks for past support <br />and provided the Commission with details of the attorney services offered to seniors the second Monday <br />of each month at the Pleasanton Senior Center. Ms. D'Andrea advised that the agency has noted an <br />increase in senior abuse cases. <br />Commissioners and staff discussed funding concerns with Ms. D'Andrea and were advised that Legal <br />Assistance for Seniors will try to continue services at the Senior Center. Ms. D'Andrea advised that funds <br />were also being sought through the City Grant program. <br />Open I lean Kitchen, Linda McKeever - Ms. McKeever advised that Open Heart Kitchen serves hot meals <br />to low and very low income Pleasanton residents Friday afternoons from 430-6:00 p.m. in the Trinity <br />Church building. She discussed OHK's recent funding difficulties and the wonderful help received from <br />the community. Ms. McKeever also advised that due to problems with the economy, local companies are <br />now focusing their help locally, rather than internationally. She is excited at the changes she is seeing, <br />especially with the youth volunteers. <br />Commissioner Lambert advised that Boy Scout Troop 908 would be providing a concert to help OHK on <br />March 7. 2009. <br />I luman Services Commission Minutes <br />March 4, 2009 <br />Page 3 <br />
