tested to ensure attribute collection is working as anticipated. CSDS will be on hand to assist with
any technical issues.
Task B: Data Collection
RRM will collect location and attribute data regarding the status of the City's sidewalks and curb
ramps located within the City Limits. Field data will be characterized by the attributes defined in
Task A.2.
Subtask 6.1: Route Preparation and Mapping
To ensure data collection personnel are efficient and thorough, pre-determined routes will be
plotted and mapped in advance of the first field day. Using the City of Pleasanton's GIS data and
aerial imagery, route maps will be prepared and plotted on small sheets for ease of use in the field.
Deliverables: Route maps
Subtask B.2: Data Collection Standardization
To make certain all data collection procedures are standardized, RRM's Project Manager will review
data collection methods with the field crew to ensure accuracy and consistency. The City's Project
Manager will be invited to attend.
Deliverables: Standardized Data Collection
Subtask B.3: Field Data Collection
Field crews will assess all sidewalks and ramps within the project limits using RRM's standard
evaluation criteria. The field crew will work in pairs for safety. The pairs will travel via bicycle along
the sidewalks while evaluating sidewalks and curb ramps. Each bicycle will be fitted with a
handlebar-mounted basket containing data acquisition tools (Trimble GeoXH Data Collector, Smart
Level, Tape Measure, Digital Camera, and route map). GIS points will be acquired for any sidewalk
deflection greater than %: inch and all curb ramps and missing ramps. Each ramp will be evaluated
using the standardized criteria to determine ADA compliance. Each GIS data point will include the
attribute data previously defined and a digital image of the sidewalk feature. Additional GIS points
will be collected at midblock for each side of the street to identify whether sidewalks are present or
missing. These points will be utilized in the database management task to ensure all street segments
have been surveyed. It is estimated that Field Data Collection will take approximately three weeks.
Deliverables: GIS Field Data
Subtask B.4: Project Management
