School Concert Series <br />This program provides elementary school classes with exposure to various types of <br />performance art (plays, music, acrobatics, puppeteers, etc.) <br />Young Explorers <br />The City Naturalist hosts elementary school classes in explorations of the outdoor <br />environment and educates students on the various animals and creatures that live within <br />the environment. <br />Intergenerational Programs at the Senior Center <br />The Book Buddies program partners seniors and elementary school children to share the <br />benefits and joys of reading. Wii at the Senior Center gives leadership students from <br />Amador Valley High School an opportunity to teach seniors how to play with the Wii <br />system. <br />DARE Program <br />Two full-time police officers teach the DARE program to all 5m grade classes in the <br />Pleasanton Unified School District. They also teach an abbreviated course to all the 8m <br />grade classes in the District. <br />r Culminations are held on four nights twice a year, involving both DARE <br />Officers supported by crime prevention members, at least four VIPS and the <br />Department Color Guard. <br />DARE Parent Nights are held on three different nights twice per year, with <br />DARE Officers and other Department personnel presenting on two of the <br />nights. <br />BBQ/Swim Party is held on two different nights and involves DARE Officers <br />with assistance from the crime prevention staff, explorers, volunteers and <br />usually up to two additional paid overtime officers due to the size of events. <br />The events usually last approximately five hours per night. <br />DARE Field Trips -DARE Officers attend outdoor education classes with <br />their respective schools, usually five days per year. <br />School Resource Officer Program <br />Two full-time police officers work within the schools as resource officers. One officer is <br />assigned to Amador Valley High School and the other is primarily at Foothill High <br />School. They also share school assignments at Village High School and all the middle <br />schools. <br />Security Detail for High School Sporting Events <br />For the past 25 years, the Police Department has supplied officers to work security at <br />the football and basketball games. They also work occasionally at school dances, <br />proms and graduations. <br />Crossing Guard Program <br />The City contracts for crossing guard services at selected major intersections near all <br />schools for student pedestrian safety. <br />Page 4 of 8 <br />
