Fire Education
The Fire Department provides public education at all elementary schools promoting fire
safety and prevention.
Every 15 Minutes Program
This is facilitated through the Police Department's Traffic Unit, but always has involved
School Resource Officers (SROs), Crime Prevention staff and Fire Department
personnel due to staffing needs. Held once a year and rotated between high schools.
Parent Project
This is a community outreach program in partnership with the Pleasanton Unified
School District Adult Education program. The Parent Project is a nationally recognized
program that offers an interactive class that teaches parents the skills to work with their
strong-willed adolescents. The class is offered twice a year for 11 weeks each session
Each session is approximately three hours in length and is usually held on Tuesday
evenings.
Safe Our Schools Grant
The School District was awarded $318,000 in matching funds to enhance and upgrade
its security on school campuses. The grant was overseen by the Police Department's
Youth Community Service Unit (YCSU) Sergeant. The program involved project
management, financial and reporting oversight.
School Liaison Committee
This function is conducted by the YCSU Sergeant in partnership with School District
personnel to keep abreast of school issues.
S.R.O. Nights (and other community outreach nights targeted for youths)
These are public education nights for the parents of high school and middle school
students. Our goal is to hold two meetings per year in the evening and include School
Resource Officers, the YCSU Sergeant and the Traffic Unit.
T.A.P.S. Enforcement
Teen Alcohol Party Suppression (T.A.P.S.) patrol is usually conducted by SROs after
school dances and/or large scale, Friday night sporting events, i.e., football and
basketball games.
Fuel Procurement and Storage
The City purchases, stores and dispenses vehicle fuel for both the City and School
District to use. The School District reimburses the City at a wholesale rate.
Parking Lot Lights
The City purchases and replaces school parking lot light bulbs on an as-needed basis.
