DeLEUW
CATHER

Msrs. Warnick/Kawar
June 28, 1984
Page two

Driveway and entrance to the County Fairgrounds,
Gate 2. It was originally proposed that the existing
entrance to the County Fairgrounds would remain in
its present location, approximately opposite Station
69+50. However, this location became the subject of
extensive discussions and reviews by City and County,
and two or three other locations were developed.
The final decision was to construct an entirely new
entrance located opposite Sta. 65+39. This required
revising plans which were substantially complete,
involving drainage, median layout, signing and strip-
ing, landscaping, and irrigation. It also required
the length of our project to be extended approximately
300 feet to the west, to provide a left-turn pocket
for the new entrance, all for the Bernal Ave. Underpass.

Changes involving transfer of railroad ownership from
Western Pacific to Union Pacific. Our original bridge
designs were based on preliminary drawings approved
by the Western Pacific's Bridge Engineer in 1982.
Although we were able to avoid complete redesign,
considerable effort was involved in substantiating
the validity of our designs, providing legal back-
ground and demonstrating to Union Pacific that it
would be responsible for costs of any design changes
or increases in cost of construction.

Nevertheless, on the very day that bids were opened
by the City, we received a marked set of prints of the
bridge structural drawings from the UPRR's Chief
Engineer Office, Omaha, requesting changes to the deck
dimension~ ballast trough~ precast boxes, and details
of the three underpass structures. Mr. Warnick verbally
authorized us to make the requested changes, which
are described in a separate letter to the City.

Changes to temporary track locations near Sunol and
Radum, shown on Sheets R1 and R2 of the Plans. With
the new management at Union Pacific, the previously
designed temporary track locations, as depicted on
Drawings R1 and R2, and which were taken from the WPRR-
SPTCO. Joint Trackage Agreement, were redesigned by
Union Pacific. It was necessary for us to revise the
Plans and Special Provisions to reflect these changes
in Addendum No. 1.
