Strategic Plan Process

In 1997, the Senior Program Advisory Committee embarked on a process to develop a long-range Strategic
Plan, or Strategic Plan. The process was completed by the Committee with support from Parks &
Community Services Department personnel.

The process included an assessment of existing programs/activities/services available in the
community/region for seniors. This included resources such as: facilities, statFmg, community
organizations, service providers, geographic features, funding mechanisms, and demographics. Staff and
Committee members projected future needs and strategies based on the assessment f'mdings.

Nine (9) focus groups were conducted to gather community input from diverse groups within the
community. Eight (8) personal interviews were completed with key community leaders. The conclusions
of the staff/committee members were compared to the focus group/personal interview f'mdmgs.

The Committee then developed a draft Strategic Plan based on the input received from the community and
staff. The proposed action plan will be presented to the Human Services Commission during a final public
hearing to share the strategic statement, strategies and implementation plan for input/comments prior to
Commission approval. The Strategic Plan will be presented to the City Council for additional input and
approval.

The Pleasanton Senior Program Strategic Plan has been developed after extensive public input, focus group
sessions and staff deliberations. It reflects the community's senior needs and priorities for
programs/activities/services. The Strategic Plan will be revised, monitored and updated every three (3)
years to insure it remains timely and reflective of the community.

The Pleasanton Senior Program Committee wishes to thank the community members who took the time to
help formulate this Strategic Plan.
