SECTION 4 <br /> <br />STREET PAVEMENT SECTIONS <br /> <br />4- 01 General: <br /> <br />Pavement sections shall generally be designed using criteria <br />established in this section and subject to final determin- <br />ation and approval of the City Engineer. <br /> <br />4-02 Method: <br /> <br />The d~sign of the structural section. shall be by the <br />"California R-value method" based on traffic index, expan- <br />sion properties of the soil and the resistance values. No <br />cohesion values other than those contributed by the asphalt <br />surfacing shall be used in arriving at the design thickness, <br />regardless of additives to the base or subbase courses. <br /> <br />4-03 Traffic Index: <br /> <br />The City will specify the traffic index to be used for the <br />design of each street or section of street. The following <br />may be used as a guide for preliminary estimates: <br /> <br />a) <br />b) <br />c) <br />d) <br /> <br />Major streets <br />Major collector <br />Minor collector <br />Minor street and cul-de-sac <br /> <br />T. ~. = 8 1/2 - 9 1/2 <br />T. I. = 6 - 7 <br />T. I. = 5 1/2 - 6 <br />T. I. = 4 1/2 <br /> <br />4-04 Required Soil Report: <br /> <br />A report on the existing subgrade materials by as Soil <br />Engineer, who is acceptable to the City, will be required <br />and must contain the following. <br /> <br />a) <br /> <br />R-value test results at 300 psi exudation pressure <br />using the State prescribed methods. <br /> <br />b) <br /> <br />Street limits represented by each particular soil <br />tested. <br /> <br />c) <br /> <br />A statement that the location of sampling, sampling <br />and testing were carried out under his direct super- <br />vision; and an opinion that sufficient number of <br />samples have been tested to represent all of the streets <br />within the particular development. <br /> <br />4-05 Minimum Surface Course Thickness: <br /> <br />The asphalt surface course shall have a minimum thickness <br />related to the traffic index as follows: <br /> <br />a) <br />b) <br />c) <br /> <br />T.I. = 6 and over <br />T.I.=5to6 <br />T.I. = less than 5 <br /> <br />; thickness = 3" <br />; thickness = 2 1/2" <br />; thickness = 2" <br /> <br />4-06 Minimum Structural Section Thickness <br /> <br /> The structural section shall have a minimum thickness of 8 inches. <br /> 4.1 <br /> <br /> <br />
