(- ~...
they allowed the pool construction to continue, but they could have had all work stopped
and this process would have started back then.
Ms. Johnston explained that they are not trying to tell him what to plant in his yard as there
are numerous varieties to choose from, as long as they follow the plan, but that they do not
want to wait five to seven yeazs for the trees to grow.
Mr. Lam stated that he does not want to wait five to seven years for the trees to grow. He
mentioned he bought his home because of the privacy in his backyadd, but now his privacy
is gone.
Ms. Johnston explained that the lot behind them went through this same process a few
years ago and a compromise was reached. They are now involved again because it is
condition of that lot that there not be any grading.
Ms. Decker looked over the landscaping plans.
Ms. Johnston explained that they are only looking for a compromise and not trying to tell
the applicant what to plant in his yazd, but that lot has conditions to abide by.
Mr. Jeffrey stated that the wall is from the original grade and that no fill was added.
Mrs. Johnston asked if there was a timeline for completion of the back yard.
Ms. Decker asked to see pictures of the trees to be planted in the backyard.
Discussion enthused regazding the varieties of trees.
Ms. Decker requested that everyone go outside to look at a Podocarpus tree.
Ms. Decker understood that the main goal for everyone was to recapture their privacy. She
identified on the plans the two areas where the most screening was needed.
Ms. Johnston agreed that privacy was the main concern and that certain azeas remain
landscape only, even if the grade changes.
Mr. Jeffrey stated that he is not familiaz with all the varieties of trees and bushes available,
but he would be willing to consider other varieties then the ones he received from his
landscape architect. He mentioned the maintenance for the trees must be considered when
choosing the landscape materials.
Mr. Johnston stated that nurseries in the area aze very informative and can help to choose
the correct trees, bushes and hedges.
Ms. Decker recommended three different trees; Pittosporum Eugeniodes, Rhus Lancea and
Rhus Laurina and a planting strategy to produce screening as soon as possible.
ZA Hearing, PDR-715
July 10, 2008
5
