Mr. Larson stated that the task force is made up of a group of interested citizens who are working with <br />the consulting team and City staff in developing the master plan. He briefly identified the members of <br />the task force. In addition, Mr. Larson stated that the master plan is a list of uses and goals, and the <br />program sets forth the goals for each project site and how they intend to be used. <br />Mr. Lazson presented a slide show of the proposed project, pointing out the following major features: <br />Wayside Pazk <br />The location of the park was identified and shown on the slides. The task force has agreed that <br />improved uses of Wayside Park should include the performing arts and conventional activities such as <br />walking, picnicking, etc. The goals for improvement include replacing the existing bandstand, <br />enlazging the park site, improving pazking, covering or improving the safety of the storm drainage ditch, <br />accommodating the regional trail, and retaining the lazge eucalyptus tree. The task force has also <br />recommended replacing or adding some barbecue grills and picnic tables, as well as a children's play <br />area and restrooms. <br />Delucchi Park <br />The existing park was identified and shown on the slides. The task force has agreed that this park should <br />support the local Farmers' Mazket and related uses as well as recreational activities, such as walking, <br />biking, and picnicking. The goals aze to support activities relating to the Farmers' Mazket, improving the <br />safety of the drainage ditch, improving pazking, adding shade trees, accommodating the regional trail, <br />and possible relocation and/or replacement of picnic tables. The task force has also suggested new <br />features including a water fountain or other type of water feature; restrooms, a children's play area, and <br />an improved connection to Wayside Pazk. <br />Fire Station Buildine <br />The existing Fire Station building and location was exhibited. In addition, Mr. Larson identified Fire <br />Station No. 1, noting that it is anticipated to be vacated within two to ten years. The original portion of <br />that building was constructed in the 1920's and currently houses meeting rooms and offices. The task <br />force has agreed that the building should have multiple uses for both daytime and evening activities. <br />Goals for improvement of the building should support downtown azea business, supporting outdoor <br />performing activities that take place at Wayside Park. They have also raised the possibility of many <br />other uses including a downtown Arts Center, performing arts theater, a ticket office, meeting space for <br />non-profit organizations, a children's activity center, acity-owned rental facility for private events such <br />as weddings, and a venue for a summer outdoor film festival. <br />Reeional Trail Transnortation Corridor <br />Mr. Larson identified where the trail starts and the path it follows, noting that the trail is a connection <br />between the local cities for walkers, bikers, and horse back riders. In addition, he noted that the land is <br />owned by Alameda County, and it has been discussed throughout the planning of this project that a light <br />rail system may be part of this corridor in the future. The task force has agreed that the main use of the <br />corridor should be for walkers, bikers, and equestrians, and as an access to the commercial area.
