ROLL CALL VOTE
AYES: Commissioners Bazker, Dove, Kumaran, and Wright, and Chair Cooper
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None
Resolution No. PC-98-O1 was entered and adopted as motioned.
b. Z-97-294. Main Street Pleasanton LLC
Application for design review approval to change the awning color for specific awnings on
an existing building located at 349 Main Street. Zoning for the property is C-C (Central
Commercial)/Downtown Revitalization District.
Jerry Iserson reported to the Commission that not too long ago they approved the design review
for this building in which the awnings were to be dark green. During the final stages of the
project, the architect discussed with staff changing the color of the awnings along a portion of
Main Street. At that time, staff advised the azchitect that such a change could be considered,
but would have to go through the design review process again. Due to a misunderstanding of
that instruction, the architect changed the color of six of the awnings to an off-white color.
Since the awnings have been in place for a period of time and there have been no complaints,
staff will support a change in the color of those six awnings, although it was not their
preference. In addition, under the sign program for the building, staff would require the sign
background color to be changed to off-white to match the color of the awnings. Staff has
placed a condition that when there is a change in tenancy the awnings shall either be changed
back to the originally approved green color or the tenant will be required to request a design
review for another color. Mr. Iserson stated that staff reviewed this matter with the City's
architect, and he is in agreement with staff's recommendations relating to those six awnings.
PUBIC HEARING WAS OPENED
There was none.
PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED
There was a brief discussion regarding this application with some additional information
provided by Mr. Iserson relating to the sign program for the building.
A motion was made by Commissioner Kumaran, seconded by Commissioner Wright,
recommending approval of Case Z-97-294, subject to the staff's conditions identified in
Exhibit "B".
Planning Commission Page 5 January 14, 1998
