Attachment 1 <br />City of Pleasanton <br />Environment & Sustainability Program Summary <br />C ity Programs- Continued <br />Program Services/Practices <br />Recycled Product Purchases Use of Green products during renovations (e.g. Carpet, paint low <br /> VOC, T8 Lamps, flooring) <br /> Gingerbread pre-school purchases recycled paper products. The <br /> Children's Art festival and several children activity programs involve <br /> environmental purchases or product procurement that would otherwise <br /> be landfilled. <br /> Gingerbread pre-school students collect recyclables and dedicate <br /> funds collected from recycling to purchase and plant trees at the pre- <br /> school. <br /> Recycled Plastic Benches -Recycled benches were purchased for <br /> installation at the Aquatic Center locker rooms and Pleasanton Middle <br /> School tennis courts. <br /> The Callippe Golf Course was outfitted with various items made from <br /> rec cled material. <br />Inspection Programs Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) Program: The goals of the <br /> program are to protect life safety and the environment. Requires <br /> inspection and other interaction with businesses that store and/or use <br /> hazardous materials and wastes to ensure that these materials are <br /> handled safely, accidental releases minimized, releases that do occur <br /> are addressed and wastes are disposed of appropriately. <br /> Stormwater Business Inspections: Inspect businesses threatening <br /> storm water contamination and make recommendations to the <br /> business to remove any threats. Follow up inspections are pertormed <br /> to ensure compliance. <br /> Bay Area Green Business Program Inspections: LPFD and Utility <br /> Planning staff inspect prospective (or recertify) green businesses to <br /> ensure compliance with environmental laws, review and validate water <br /> conservation measures, and stormwater pollution in order for <br /> businesses to be certified as Green Businesses. The city also provides <br /> some financial support for this program. <br /> Utility Planning staff has also served on committees with the Bay Area <br /> Green Business Program to develop an industry specific based <br /> checklist. <br /> National Pollution discharge Elimination System Permit (NPDES) <br /> Inspections: Inspect and verify installation of required pollution <br /> prevention devices. <br />-4- <br />U:\Energy\Pleasanton -Environment and Sustainability Programs Survey 2008 7-3 Final.doc <br />
