Attachment 1 City of Pleasanton Environment & Sustainability Program Summary City Programs- Continued Program Services/Practices Recycling Paper Recycling: PGS Gobbler Program for commercial businesses, city confidential documents are recycling through a contracted service. All other city waste paper is recycled via PGS. Blue Bag Program: Several city facilities are designated distribution points to encourage residents to sort recyclable materials Used Oil Recycling program -Community Businesses: Program allows for any member of the public to drop off used oil at various vehicle service centers. Gingerbread Recycling Practices: children create art using recycled materials. Recyclables are collected from students; funds collected from recycled products are used to purchase and plant trees at the Preschool. Printer Cartridge Recycling: city divisions recycle empty printer cartridges. Asphalt recycling: asphalt removed from streets is recycled. Education and Certification on Pesticide use Park employees are trained in the proper use of pesticides, reducing over-use/improper use. International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Educates employees regarding ISA standards of tree care and pruning Education and Training Program principles, reducing frequent tree failure and waste. Tree Care Program Program promotes long, healthy tree lives for over 26,000 City trees. Modern horticulture practices and equipment Ensures efficient use of fuel, water, and bulk materials in care of the parks and street median areas. Natural World Community Classes The Natural World Community class teaches children to be environmental stewards of the earth. Used Oil Block Grant Promotes recycling of used oil through public outreach and support.
