BACKGROUND
On July 17, 2007, the City Council authorized an Agreement with the Amador Livermore
Valley Historical Society (ALVHS) to combine efforts for the expansion of historical
interpretive programming and administrative operations at the future Alviso Adobe
Community Park and Museum on Main Street. The Scope of Work for the Agreement
outlined aclose/collaborative working partnership wherein ALVHS would provide the
City with assistance in program planning and design services, educational program
coordination services, and administrative services that would benefit the City-operated
Alviso Adobe Community Park. The Agreement is scheduled to expire June 30, 2008,
and both parties have stipulated an interest in extending for an additional three years,
through June 30, 2011. The Agreement calls for total compensation for services
rendered not to exceed $138,805 per fiscal year, based on the availability of funding as
determined by the City Council.
DISCUSSION
Progress has been made during the first year of the Agreement regarding the proposed
interpretive plan. ALVHS recruited and hired an Executive Director, Education Director,
and reorganized its volunteer and office staff. The City is nearing completion of Alviso
Adobe Community Park (late summer), and a grand opening of the facility is planned for
this fall. Both City and ALVHS have participated in collaborative meetings, which are
designed to: 1) confirm existing City plans for the interpretive programming at the
Alviso Adobe; 2) introduce ALVHS staff expertise and assistance, which will
complement and expand interpretive planning for the facility; 3) develop and implement
collaborative school programming at both Alviso Adobe and the Museum on Main
Street; 4) coordinate volunteer/docent activities at both sites; 5) develop additional,
changing exhibits at Alviso Adobe Community Park after its first year of operation; 6)
coordinate administrative services which will benefit both Alviso Adobe and the Museum
on Main Street; 7) plan for the grand opening of Alviso Adobe Community Park; and 8)
lay the groundwork for future programming and collaboration in the ensuing years.
ubmitted by:

~(nes W.
