for freeway pavement in the Foundation Investigation
Report.

Task 1-2.5: Hydraulics Report

Review as-built plans of existing improvements near the
interchange and obtain hydrologic data for project area.
Discuss project requirements with Caltrans and the
Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation
District. Perform hydrologic analysis to determine
runoff volumes. Perform hydraulic analysis; to locate
drainage facilities, size pipes, and design overall
drainage system. Review requirements for structure
clearances and bridge pier locations in the drainage
channel. Prepare Hydraulics Report in conformance with
Caltrans requirements, submit for review by Caltrans and
the City, and incorporate comments in final document.

Task 1-2.6: Structure Type Selection Study

Perform a type selection study for the proposed bridge
structures. Consider structure length and depth,
falsework requirements, staged construction
requirements, construction duration, safety, appearance,
consistency with the existing facilities, and cost.
Consider conventional reinforced concrete box girder,
post-tensioned concrete box girder, or precast,
prestressed I-girders. Since the widening of the
existing overcrossing structure is to include a
pedestrian/bicycle lane, the possibility of providing a
separate pedestrian/bicycle structure will be
investigated. Prepare a Structure Type Selection
Report, in conformance with Caltrans requirements,
describing the structures considered for each site, the
advantages and disadvantages of each type, the estimated
construction cost, and the recommended alternative for
each site. Include Bridge General Plans showing layout,
section, and elevation of each recommended bridge
alternative.

Task 1-2.7: Coordination

Meet with Caltrans and the City at the beginning of the
study to confirm understandings, requirements, and
expectations regarding the project. City will
coordinate primarily with Caltrans Project Development
Branch C and other Caltrans District 4 groups such as
Materials, Hydraulics, Surveying, and Landscaping.
Coordinate this project with other projects such as the
1-680 widening project.
