An employee eligible for temporary disability payments <br /> may use accumulated sick leave in order to maintain <br /> his/her regular income; provided, however, that the <br /> employee shall be allowed a credit against sick leave to <br /> the extent that temporary disability payments are <br /> retained by the City. <br /> <br /> In order to receive compensation while absent on sick <br /> leave the employee shall notify his/her immediate <br /> superior or the Personnel Officer prior to or within <br /> four (4) hours after the time set for beginning his/her <br /> daily duties or as may be specified by the Police Chief. <br /> When absence is for more than eight (8) hours, the <br /> employee may be required to file a physician's <br /> certificate or a personal affidavit with the Personnel <br /> Officer stating the cause of the absence. <br /> <br />Section 11. Leaves of Absence <br /> <br /> 11.1 Leave of Absence Without Pay <br /> <br /> The Appointing Authority may grant a permanent or <br /> probationary employee leave of absence without pay or <br /> seniority for not to exceed three (3) months. No such <br /> leave shall be granted except in writing and upon <br /> written request of the employee setting forth the reason <br /> therefor. Upon expiration of a regularly approved <br /> leave, the employee shall be reinstated in the position <br /> held at the time leave was granted. Failure on the part <br /> of an employee on leave to report promptly at its <br /> expiration or within a reasonable time after notice to <br /> return to duty shall be cause for discipline. The <br /> Police Chief may grant a permanent or probationary <br /> employee leave of absence without pay for not to exceed <br /> one (1) calendar week. Such leaves shall be reported to <br /> the Personnel Officer. <br /> <br />11.2 Jury Leave <br /> <br /> Every employee of the City who is called or required to <br /> serve as a juror shall be entitled to leave from his/her <br /> duties with the City during the period of such service <br /> or while necessarily being present in court as a result <br /> of such call. The employee shall be paid the difference <br /> between his/her full salary and any payment received by <br /> him/her, except travel pay, for such duty. <br /> <br />11.3 Leaves Resulting from Subpoena <br /> <br /> Leave of absence with pay shall be granted to a person <br /> while going to and from court and answering a subpoena <br /> as a witness. The employee shall be paid the difference <br /> between his/her full salary and any payment received by <br /> him/her, except travel pay, for such duty. <br /> <br />Memorandum of Understanding <br />Page 11 <br /> <br /> <br />
