Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority <br />Special Transportation for Seniors and People with Disabilities <br />residents that meet Federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) income guidelines. <br />Eligible seniors may ride at a 50% discount, up to $200. <br />The PPS azea covers all of Pleasanton, its unincorporated azeas, and Sunol. Limited service <br />to medical appointments in Livermore, Dublin, and San Ramon is permitted to approved <br />destinations. <br />Types of rides provided vary according to the needs of the clients. In FY 2006-07, 19,122 <br />rides were completed. Trip purposes included 21.5% nutrition, 26.2% medical, 26.3% living <br />needs (grocery store, beauty pazlor, and bank), 5.9% adult day caze, and 19.3% other (such as <br />recreation, work, or connection to transit). 72% of all PPS rides were shazed rides. <br />For FY 2008-09, 20,000 PPS rides are planned, serving over 600 unduplicated clients. <br />Downtown Route (DTR <br />For FY 2007-08, PPS is piloting a fixed route shuttle. The pilot Downtown Route (DTR) <br />began January 14, 2008, and will continue through December 31, 2008. For FY 2008-2010, <br />PPS has submitted a Gap Grant Application to fund this service, which currently is using PPS <br />resources (staff time and buses) to operate. Additional funding would reduce DTR's impact <br />on the base PPS program. <br />DTR provides a creative, cost-effective, same day transit alternative for PPS clients that have <br />minimal mobility limitations. It provides a bridge between existing Wheels fixed-route <br />service lines and more costly door-to-door pazatransit service. PPS riders are able to select <br />the type of transit service that best fits their needs, which varies with weather conditions and <br />personal health. <br />The pilot DTR consists often (10) pre-determined stops, developed into a scheduled fixed <br />route throughout Downtown Pleasanton. Requiring no reservations, PPS clients aze able to <br />access the route at any designated stop, for a cost of $1.25, no matter how many times they <br />utilize the service during the same day. <br />The route includes eight (8) Pleasanton senior housing locations, and the following highly <br />requested Downtown stops: Pleasanton Senior Center, Pleasanton Library, Main Street, <br />Raley's Shopping Center, and Safeway Shopping Center. Connection to Wheels at the Neal <br />Street, Library, and Safeway stops allows free transfers to other destinations such as BART, <br />Stoneridge Shopping Center, and Wal-Mart. The entire loop does not exceed 50 minutes <br />from any key point of entry. DTR operates Monday-Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., <br />and is currently funded 100% by the City of Pleasanton. <br />A sepazate DTR printed schedule and riders instructions were produced in Fa112007. <br />Extensive mazketing and outreach was initiated in December 2007. (Attachment A -DTR <br />mazketing materials) Over 1,000 free DTR tickets were distributed to current PPS users and <br />members of the local community.
