Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority <br />Special Transportation for Seniors and People with Disabilities <br />Please provide a narrative description for each service component listed in Question 6 and <br />describe anv planned changes. <br />Response <br />Pleasanton Pazatransit Service (PPS) provides transportation for Pleasanton/Sunol residents <br />60 years or older, and to disabled residents age 18-59 years. Livermore Amador Valley <br />Transit Authority (LAVTA) determines ADA eligibility for disabled residents. 55% of PPS <br />clients aze 80 yeazs and older. The purpose of the program is to reduce isolation, increase <br />socialization, and encourage independent living, thereby minimizing the need for <br />institutionalization and enhancing the quality of life for residents no longer able to drive or <br />who do not have a caz available. The program provides door-to-door, driver assisted <br />transportation. PPS requires the driver to remain within sight of the vehicle at all times for <br />the safety of all concerned. <br />Registration for PPS is required, and applications may be obtained from the Pazatransit <br />Office or are available on-line. Staff is available to assist clients in completing the <br />application. Staff requires five (5) days to process applications and begin service. <br />Reservations can be made up to two (2) weeks in advance through the PPS Office. Rides aze <br />reserved on a first-call, first-served basis, and dispatchers encourage round-trip reservations. <br />Due to service demands, PPS is not able to provide same day reservations. <br />The PPS fleet includes one (1) van and six (6) mini buses. These vehicles are owned, <br />operated, and maintained by the City of Pleasanton. Service is available Monday through <br />Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There aze five (5) drivers <br />scheduled on weekdays and two (2) drivers on Saturdays. The service does not operate on <br />Sundays. When PPS is not operating, LAVTA provides comparable services to ADA eligible <br />clients. <br />There are two (2) full time and eight (8) part time drivers, all City of Pleasanton employees. <br />All drivers aze hired, trained and supervised by the City. There is currently one (1) full time <br />and one (1) part time dispatcher, who are both City employees. A part time office aide assists <br />with passenger reservations. A Recreation Supervisor and Community Services Manager <br />provide management for the program. <br />The faze structure is divided into two (2) areas of service: (1) In-Town service, and (2) Out- <br />of-Town service. Pleasanton residents pay $2.50 for in-town service, and $3.00 for out-of- <br />town service. Residents living in Sunol and the unincorporated areas of Pleasanton pay $3.00 <br />for in-town service, and $3.50 for out-of--town service. The PPS fee structure is consistent <br />with Wheels Dial-A-Ride fees. Rider punch cards are sold for $25.00 and $30.00, and may <br />be purchased in advance at the Pleasanton Senior Center. Drivers punch the client's cazd <br />according to the destination.
