The Commission discussed alternative means of supporting this programs should CDBG funds are not <br />received. <br />Tri-Valley Haven -Shiloh Domestic Violence Shelter, Vicki Thompson -advised that Tri-Valley Haven <br />was seeking funds to repair and replace the roof of the Shiloh Domestic Violence Shelter facility in <br />Livermore that would also include a solar element. Ms. Thompson informed the Commission that this 30- <br />bed shelter was opened in 1977 for women and children who were trying to escape domestic violence and <br />that a duplicate request for $87,500 was being requested from the City of Livermore. <br />Commissioners had questions regarding the square footage of the shelter and whether contractor discounts <br />and PG&E rebates were being sought. <br />Bav Area Community Services -Valley Creative Living Center, Lisa Gross - Ms. Gross advised that this <br />agency has been providing services since 1953 and to the Pleasanton community for the past 30 years. <br />They are looking for support to secure this as a 5-day program. <br />Ms. Yurchak questioned whether the agency collaborated with other local agencies and Commissioner <br />Nagler had questions about how clients were directed to the program. <br />Easter Seals Bav Area -Community Inclusion Group, Jenifer Reeve - Ms. Reeve provided information <br />regarding transitioning requirements for disabled youth to adulthood. She advised that 85% of those who <br />have graduated from the program are now living as independently as possible having been provided with <br />an array of community-based volunteer/employment, recreation, leisure, and post-secondary educational <br />opportunities. <br />Commissioner Nagler had questions regarding the reliability of other funding sources that Easter Seals is <br />pursuing. Ms. Yurchak was advised that the organization also collaborated with East Bay Innovations. <br />Spectrum Community Services, congregate Meals for Seniors in Pleasanton, Annemarie Parrish -advised <br />that Spectrum has been providing meals through this nutrition program since 1979. Funds being requested <br />will cover the salary and benefits for a Meal Site Coordinator and Meal Handler at the Pleasanton Senior <br />Center and ensure that 165 Pleasanton and unincorporated area seniors receive hot, nutritious meals. Ms. <br />Parrish advised that Spectrum was also looking to put together a central kitchen that would enable them, <br />to save on meal costs. She also advised that a suggested donation is requested from seniors, but is not a <br />requirement. <br />CAPE, Inc. -Bilingual Mental Health Services, Ieda White -advised that funds were being requested so <br />the agency could hire a bilingualBicultural Mental Health Consultant to work with low-income Spanish <br />speaking families and provide consultation to classroom teachers. Ms. White indicated that needs for <br />health services have increased dramatically over the past several years. <br />Open Heart Kitchen -Pleasanton Hot Meal Program, Michael Carter - Mr. Carter advised that he has <br />been with OHK for approximately 7 weeks. The informed the Commission that funds were being <br />requested to allow the agency to continue to provide hot, nutritious meals to low and very low income <br />residents in Pleasanton. The program has grown considerably and they now serve approximately 11,500 <br />meals in Pleasanton each year with the help of two full and two part-time employees and 100 volunteers. <br />Human Services Commission Minutes <br />March 5, 2008 <br />Page 3 <br />
