Mr. Huy A. Ho, P.E.
The City of Pleasanton
January 30, 2008
Page 4
5.0 Preliminary Design:
5.1 Preliminary Data Review: Engineer will review all existing data and drawings.
Engineer will also conduct a site visit to review existing facilities. It is assumed
that City will provide necessary drawings, engineering data, and other necessary
information regarding existing facilities.
5.2 Hydraulics Study: Engineer will perform a hydraulic study, from which the results
will be used to confirm the required design head and capacity of the new pumps.
Hydraulic study will focus on the 20" PVC force main conveying wastewater from
the pump station to the wastewater treatment plant. Influent flows to the pump
station will be based on the current master plan. As part of hydraulic study,
available flow and pressure data from the existing pump station will be used for
calibration. It is assumed the City will obtain/provide this data with assistance
from the Engineer.
5.3 Project Scoping: Engineer will review and evaluate the pre-design report
prepared by Brian Kanga & Faulk (BKF). Recommendations on modifications to
the selected alternative from the report (wet well submersible pump station
without flowminutor) will be made to improve cost effectiveness and ability to
address City's needs. Recommendations will be discussed with City at
Preliminary Design Workshop. Decisions made at workshop will be summarized
in the Preliminary Design Report.
5.4 Design Criteria Identification: Engineer will coordinate with City to establish pump
station design criteria. Engineer will present draft design criteria at Project
Preliminary Design Workshop for discussion, comments, and finalization.
Outcomes of the workshop will be summarized in the Preliminary Design Report.
5.5 Preliminary Design Report: Engineer will prepare a Draft Preliminary Design
Report (PDR). Draft PDR will provide a summary of all the work completed
during preliminary design and be the basis for detailed design. Draft PDR will
include preliminary design criteria, station layouts, electrical single-line diagrams,
process and instrumentation diagram, project schedule, construction sequencing
and constraints, and cost estimate. Draft PDR will be finalized after review and
receipt of comments from City.
Deliverables:
• Draft and Final PDR (ten hard copies each).
6.0 Detailed Design:
6.1 Preparation of Contract Documents: ENGINEER shall prepare necessary CAD
drawings and technical specifications for the general, civil, architectural,
mechanical, structural, electrical, and instrumentation requirements to upgrade
Pump Station S-6. The final design will be based on the City approved PDR from
Task 5.0. Budget is based on no major mitigation measures being required as
part of the CEQA/permitting/utility coordination process, geotechnical
investigations, and right of way acquisition. Budget is also based on scope of
H:\Fnal\Pleasanton_WCO\ContracHRevisedTasklLetterHo.doc Page 4 of 6
