therewith. No additional services may be performed without written authorization from the CLIENT. ARTICLE 3 Pa~vment to the CONSULTANT as prescribed in ARTICLE 2 is to be made as follows: Within 30 days after receipt of the invoice for the month during which services on the project have been furnished, payment shall be the full amount due, as prescribed in ARTI- CLE 2, for such services rendered during the month. ARTICLE 4 It is further mutually agreed to by'the parties hereto: A. That, the CONSULTANT will not begin work on any of the services li~ted in ARTICLE 1 until the CLIENT directs him in writing to proceed, that the work will be com- pleted in phases as described herein, and that a sepa- rate written authorization to proceed must be given for each phase of the work. B. That, if ADDITIONAL SERVICES not specifically provided for in this AGREEMENT are to be performed, written ap- proval of the CLIENT must be given the CONSULTANT prior to beginning the work. C. That the CONSULTANT'S salary costs are defined as the amount of wages or salaries of the ENGINEER'S employees working on the PROJECT, plus 41 (%) of such wages or salaries to cover all taxes, payments, and premiums measured by or applicable to such wages or salaries, such as, but not limited to, worker's compensation in- surance, Social Security, state and federal unemploy- ment insurance, medical-hospital insurance, salary continuation insurance, pension plan costs, and pro rate allowances for vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay. D. That, the CONSULTANT'S direct expenses are defined as the costs incurred on or directly for the PROJECT, other than the salary costs (as defined hereinbefore}. Such direct expenses shall be computed on the basis of actual purchase price for items obtained from commer- cial sources and on the basis of usual commercial charges for items provided by the CONSULTANTS. Direct expenses shall include, but not be limited to, neces- sary transportation costs, including mileage at the rate of 32 cents per mile when the CONSULTANT'S own automobiles are used.
