The number of design sprinklers shall be the hydraulically most remote six (6) sprinklers <br />above or below the ceiling. When a common fire sprinkler and domestic water supply is <br />provided, the fire sprinkler calculation shall include the simultaneous domestic flow of <br />five (5) gallons per minute per dwelling unit. This domestic flow shall be calculated at <br />the base of the riser. <br />Exception: This standard does not include hotels, motels, or day care centers with more <br />than twelve (12) occupants. <br />(c) Sprinklers shall be provided in attics and between floors where floor/ceiling <br />assemblies consist of open web wood joists or trusses. <br />Exception: Townhouses with approved one-hour separations at the property line shall <br />have pilot sprinklers per (a) above. <br />CHAPTER 4-System Design -amended <br />Section 4-1.3- Water Demand is amended to read: <br />(a.) One (1) to four (4) dwelling units. <br />The water demand for the system shall be determined by multiplying the design area of <br />the largest compartment by the specified application rate. Additional demand is <br />required for domestic use as specified in Section 4-1.2.1 (above). <br />CHAPTER 4-System Design -amended <br />Section 4-2.6 is added to read: <br />(a) Pilot fire sprinkler protection and fire detection shall be provided in all attic spaces. <br />Pilot fire sprinkler locations shall be near heat or fire sources, i.e., HVAC equipment, <br />water heaters, kitchen duct/exhaust penetrations, or other electrical or gas fired <br />equipment, etc. <br />(b) Pilot fire sprinkler sprig ups or risers shall be braced in accordance with pipe <br />manufacturers' recommendations for vertical support and within 4 to 6 inches of the fire <br />sprinkler when the vertical riser exceeds 30 inches vertically. <br />Chapter 4-System Design -amended <br />Section 4-6 Location of Sprinklers is amended to read: <br />Sprinklers shall be installed in all areas. <br />Exception #1: Sprinklers may be omitted from bathrooms not exceeding 55 square feet <br />(5.1 m) with non-combustible fixtures. <br />45 <br />
