d. All LED's shall be off in case of interconnect failure or other loss
of interconnect power.
e. Red LED's shall indicate for each intersection that it is "on-line"
and in coordinated mode. Indication shall be given that the
intersection is in full coordination or that the intersection is
not.

The' display shall be determined from field conditions (i.e., actual
signal operation) rather than by information originated by the
master. A pilot lamp test switch shall be added to the existing
display map or all lamps shall be converted to LED type.

LOCAL SURVEILLANCE--Local surveil 1 ance' assemblies (sampling detector
stations) shall be available for installation at each location, using
vehicle detectors for traffic count sampling and speed calculations.
(Local controller assemblies with interconnect equipment, multiplex and
telemetry circuits, speed calculation and count sampling detectors shall
also be considered as local surveillance assemblies.)

The survei 11 ance assemblies shal 1 transmit traffic counting information
for up to 6 sampling detectors and coded vehicle speed information for 2
sets of speed calculation detectors.

Speed calculations may be determined by the travel time and distance
between the detectors method or by single loop method. The distance
between speed calculation detectors shall be progranmnable at the master.

Where noted on the plans, detectors shall provide dual or multi purpose
functions, i .e., a count sampling detector may function as one of the
speed calculation set and as a controller vehicle extension detector.
Multi purpose detectors shall be provided with logic and isolation
devices to prevent cross-feeding different functions.

Attention is directed to the section "Speed Calculation Routines" under
"SOFTWARE" of these special provisions.

Portable Cathode Ray Tube Terminals. Additional terminals with acoustic
coupler, shall be available, with the master computer via the telephone
transmitter and receiver of the master control center communications
systen or at any of the local intersections within the system. Each
terminal shall communicate directly with the master computer to allow
interrogation, display and changs the system or intersection parameters.
:
Each terminal shall be of modular- solid state design and shall include a
cathode ray tube display, an alphanumeric keyboard and an integral
acoustic coupler. The CRT shall be capable of displaying at least 16
lines of 64 characters on its screen at one time.

(1) Acoustic CoUpler--Each terminal shall have an integrally mounted
acoustic coupler, which shall accommodate a standard telephone
handset. The acoustic coupler and telephone handset shall be the
method of interfacing and data transmission between the terminal
and master computer. Additionally, the acoustic coupler and its
associated circuitry shall be designated to transmit at 10 or 30

-6-
