The department head shall grant <br /> such leave and determine the amount thereof; <br /> provided, however, that the Personnel Officer shall <br /> first, where necessary, pass upon sufficiency of <br /> relationship. <br /> <br /> This provision does not apply if the family <br /> sickness or disability or the employee's <br /> bereavement occurs while the employee is on <br /> vacation leave. <br /> <br />Management and confidential employees eligible for <br />temporary disability payments may use accumulated sick <br />leave in order to maintain his/her regular income; <br />provided, however, that the employee shall be a allowed <br />a credit against sick leave to the extent that temporary <br />disability payments are retained by the city. <br /> <br />In order to receive compensation while absent on sick <br />leave the employee shall notify his/her manager or the <br />personnel officer prior to or within four hours after <br />the time set for beginning his/her daily duties or as <br />may be specified by the department head. When absence <br />is for more than eight (8) hours, the employee may be <br />required to file a physician's certificate or a personal <br />affidavit with the personnel officer stating the cause <br />of the absence. <br /> <br /> Administrative Leave <br /> <br />On July 1st of each year each management employee, <br />except fire battalion chiefs, shall be credited with <br />seven days administrative leave to be observed during <br />the fiscal year. On December 31st of each year <br />employees may elect to be paid for up to 3-1/2 days of <br />said leave. On June 30th of each year each employee <br />will be paid for all unused administrative leave. No <br />administrative leave may be carried over from one fiscal <br />year to the next. <br /> <br />On July 1st of each year each fire battalion chief, <br />shall be credited with twenty-four hours of <br />administrative leave to be observed during the fiscal <br />year. On December 31st of each year employees may elect <br />to be paid for up to twelve hours of said leave. On <br />June 30th of each year each employee will be paid for <br />all unused administrative leave. No administrative <br />leave may be carried over from one fiscal year to the <br />next. <br /> <br />Fire battalion chiefs hired after July 1st but prior to <br />April 1st of each year shall be credited with 2 hours of <br />administrative leave for each full month falling between <br />their date of hire and June 30th. <br /> <br /> - 10 - <br /> <br /> <br />
