allowed a sick leave deficit of twenty-four (24) hours <br /> beyond 'that actually earned. Employees on leave of <br /> absence with pay in lieu of temporary disability <br /> payments pursuant to Section 4850 of the Labor Code <br /> shall accumulate sick leave during said leave of <br /> absence, in accordance with the provisions of this <br /> section. <br /> <br />6.5(2) Fire Battalion Chiefs Sick Leave Accrual <br /> <br /> Fire Battalion Chiefs during their first year of <br /> employment earn sick leave at the rate of eleven and <br /> two-tenths (11.2) hours for each month of service. Upon <br /> successfully completing his/her first year of employment <br /> each new employee shall receive five hundred <br /> thirty-seven and six tenths (537.6) hours sick leave <br /> credit in addition to that earned during probation. <br /> Upon completion of five (5) years service every employee <br /> shall thereafter accumulate sick leave at a rate of <br /> eleven and two-tenths (11.2) hours per month. No <br /> employee shall accumulate more than two thousand sixteen <br /> hours (2,016) sick leave. An employee may be allowed a <br /> sick leave deficit of thirty-three and six-tenths (33.6) <br /> hours beyond that actually earned. Employees on leave <br /> of absence with pay in lieu of temporary disability <br /> payments pursuant to Section 4850 of the Labor Code <br /> shall accumulate sick leave during said leave of <br /> absence, in accordance with the provisions of this <br /> section. <br /> <br />6.5(3) Sick Leave Usage <br /> <br /> All full time management and confidential employees <br /> shall be eligible for sick leave with pay. Sick leave <br /> shall not be considered a right which an employee may <br /> use at his/her discretion but shall be allowed only as <br /> follows: <br /> <br /> 1) In cases of necessity and actual personal sickness <br /> or disability of the employee; <br /> 2) For medical and dental appointments of the <br /> employee, at the discretion of the immediate <br /> supervisor; <br /> 3) For the care of or attendance upon the sickness or <br /> disability of members of his/her immediate family <br /> or for bereavement because of the death of a member <br /> of his/her immediate family. A maximum of forty <br /> (40) hours per year of sick leave may be used for <br /> this purpose except that battalion chiefs may use <br /> fifty-six (56) hours for this purpose. The <br /> immediate family shall consist of the spouse, <br /> children, parents, brothers, sisters or other <br /> individual whose relationship to the employee is <br /> that of a dependent or near dependent.
