BACKGROUND
In accordance with project construction documents for the Alviso Adobe Community
Park, continuous inspection of masonry construction, necessary welding, grout and
concrete testing and soils testing must be done whenever this type of work is being
performed. The City commonly enters into separate consultant contracts to provide
engineering shop drawing review and inspection services during the construction of
certain projects, as the City does not staff specialists in these areas. It is recommended
that an engineering consultant be retained to assist staff in assuring conformance with
the approved plans and specifications for this work.
Consulting Firm Selection Process
Staff solicited proposals from three (3) construction inspection firms .that provide
individuals qualified in projects of this type. Proposals were received from BSK and
Associates,- ENGEO Incorporated and Kleinfelder Incorporated. Staff determined that
BSK and Associates was best qualified to provide the required specialty inspection
services. BSK and Associates is the same firm that has provided similar inspection
services for the newly renovated Veteran's Memorial Building.
Consultant Fee
A scope of work, which includes a fee estimate by task, was proposed by BSK &
Associates. Attached is a copy of the Proposal that includes the Scope of Work.
Compensation will be on a time and materials basis, with anot-to-exceed amount of
$47,624. It is in the City's best interest to have BSK & Associates work directly for the
City and coordinate their inspections with those of the City's Construction Manager.
Submitted by:
Fiscal Review:
Approv by:
Nelson Fialho
City Manager
,_
r
Rob Wilson ~~ David P.
