THE CITY OF
r'r='~iN~° ~~ _~~' ~"' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
j~L£~S~NTONo
October 2, 2007
Public Works Department
TITLE: APPROVAL OF A CONSULTANT SERVICES CONTRACT WITH BSK
ASSOCIATES IN THE AMOUNT OF $47,624 TO PROVIDE
GEOTECHNICAL, SPECIALTY INSPECTION AND MATERIAL SAMPLING
SERVICES FOR THE ALVISO ADOBE COMMUNITY PARK, CIP NO.
987025
SUMMARY
Staff has awarded a contract for the construction of the Alviso Adobe Community Park,
including the renovation of "Historic Alviso Adobe" and the construction of two new
building structures on Foothill Road, to JFC Construction (selected as the General
Contractor). In accordance with the project construction documents, specialty
inspection must be done by the City in conjunction with the construction work. The
subject consulting services consist of engineering shop drawing review and construction
inspection services for the building construction and restoration. BSK and Associates
has proposed to provide these services at a cost not to exceed $47,624.00. Funding for
these services will be provided under the existing CIP budget.
RECOMMENDATION
1. Approve the Contract for Consultant Services with BSK Associates for the not-to-
exceed amount of $47,624 to perform geotechnical services, specialty inspection
and material sampling services for the subject project.
2. Authorize the use of the existing project contingency budget to fund the subject
contract with BSK Associates.
3. Authorize the City Manager to execute the above-mentioned contract.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
At the time City Council awarded the construction contract in June 2007, Council
approved a budget of $5,344,536 for completion of the project. This budget included a
construction contingency amount of $439,490. While staff originally anticipated the
need for these services, the project budget presented to the City Council in June did not
account for the consultant costs. Therefore, staff recommends that this contingency be
used to fund the contract with BSK Associates to provide the geotechnical, specialty
inspection and material sampling services necessary to complete the work.
