Montevino seemed to address the issue of speeding in this area. He suggested moving the
proposed traffic signal to another location that is more appropriate which would allow
pedestrians from the trail to cross and at the same time control speeding traffic, which would
also eliminate the need for the flashing beacon.
Mr. Fialho suggested that Council take action to direct staff to proceed with developing
landscaping plans for Old and New Vineyard Avenue and to defer the issue of the traffic signal
until such time as staff is able to present an options report regarding the potential elimination of
the roundabouts.
Mayor Hosterman invited public comments.
The following Pleasanton resident presented written communication to Council in
support of the removal of the roundabouts on Vineyard Avenue: Paul Pluschkell, Julie Young,
Laura Danielson, Loreto R. Sicam, Jr., Meribeth Detweiler, Cindy Lewis, Hilda Hasserjian,
Lynne Hudson, Toni Ulrich, Jeff Murphy, Elizabeth Boswell, Judy Howard, David Llewellyn,
Guru and Sandhya Pangal, Art Closson, Deborah Ter Keurst, Yvonne Smead, Carolyn Fears,
Terri Carl, C.J. O'Brien, Nisha Nagdev, and Dan Carl.
Written communication was presented to Council from Howard Befort, a Pleasanton
resident, expressing his support to retain the roundabouts. He believed the roundabouts did not
present a dangerous situation if the traffic adhered to the speed limit and did not drive over the
roundabout to pass another vehicle.
Written communication was presented to Council from Kris and Jeff Bergmann,
Pleasanton residents, expressing their support to reconfigure and modify the roundabouts.
Written communication was presented to Council from Terri Carl, a Pleasanton resident,
requesting the traffic signal to be reprogrammed at the intersection of Vineyard Avenue and
Bernal Avenue.
Written communication was presented to Council from Laurie Tangney, a Pleasanton
resident, expressing her support to reconfigure the size of the roundabouts.
Mayor Hosterman closed the public comments.
It was moved by Mr. Brozosky to direct staff to proceed with final design
documents for the landscaping of New Vineyard Avenue between Pietronave Lane and
Fire Station No. 5, and to defer action on the pedestrian signal at Pietronave Lane and
Vineyard Avenue until Council has an opportunity to review options for potential
elimination of the roundabouts.
Mayor Hosterman believed Council's discussion had been about directing staff to return
with an analysis regarding traffic circulation in the neighborhood if the roundabouts were
removed and/or improved.
Mr. Brozosky believed the only alternative to improving the roundabouts is to make them
larger. He asked if this was a potential possibility?
Pleasanton City Council 22 09/06/05
Minutes
