ingress and egress to major arterial roads through an existing controlled
intersection and that the Golden Road parking lot provides ingress and egress
through a complex, uncontrolled intersection at Golden and Hopyard, which
encourages drivers to use Golden Harvest as a bypass through the neighborhood
creating an adverse affect on the residents. He supports Option #3 and believes it
creates awin-win compromise for all involved and it is in line with the approved
1967 Master Plan and thereby maintains the established precedent of an orderly
transparent planning process within the City of Pleasanton.
Marianne Dean addressed the City Council indicating the church is a valuable
asset to the community both near and far. In order to serve its growing needs, the
Planning Commission unanimously approved Trinity's plans for best serving those
needs. The point she wishes to make is that she and others that live nearby walk
to the services that Trinity offers and therefore reduce the traffic concerns of
Trinity's neighbors. She urged the Council to approve the plan approved by the
Planning Commission.
Rashel Crockett addressed the City Council as the Assistant Director and Teacher
at Sonshine Preschool. She commented on the benefit of the preschool to the
community and noted as a good neighbor she noted her concerns regarding the
proposed driveway in Option #3. She noted it seems that it would create a safety
issue for children playing at the park and on the playground. She urged the
Council to deny the appeal and asked them to support the Planning Commission's
recommendation.
Penna Steele addressed the City Council as Director of the Sonshine Preschool.
She indicated she works a lot with the licensing requirements and she is worried by
Option #3. She believes Option #3 does not appear to be safe as the parking lot
would be surrounded by cars that are moving constantly. The drive-through
separates the park from the preschool and when the park is being used by the
sports groups, children often go through there to the play yard. She urged the
Council to deny the appeal and to support the Planning Commission's
recommendation.
Sarah Logan addressed the City Council and voiced concern with traffic and
speeding. She noted she has not been asked about how she feels by the plan and
she lives just a few doors from the project. She noted an unsafe, unmarked
crosswalk at that location.
Bill Herlihy addressed the City Council indicating there were no houses in the
vicinity when Trinity came to the community. Trinity has been planning for 39
years -the only thing they lacked was money. He commented on how churches
are an important component of a community.
Mary Jo Smith addressed the City Council indicating she endorses Trinity's current
plan to replace their temporary building with a permanent one. She believes it is
appropriate for the location and it is designed to enhance the functionality of their
City Council Minutes 8 March 20, 2007
