Ms. Stern noted staff had provided language in response to questions in a number of <br />places. <br />Mayor Hosterman opened the item for comment. <br />Mary Roberts referred to her comments made at the workshop regarding constrained <br />gateways and the conformance with the community character element and suggested <br />adding signs along Vineyard Avenue directing people to downtown Pleasanton. <br />Mayor Hosterman closed the public comment period. <br />Ms. Stern referred to the questions of Councilmember McGovern and reviewed the <br />suggested changes to the element as set forth on Attachment 5. <br />Councilmember Sullivan referred to page 10-22, Program 9.3, and said he would like to <br />have further discussion of the monument signage at the city's entryways. Mayor <br />Hosterman agreed. <br />There was some discussion regarding the "greenbelt" buffer between Livermore and <br />Pleasanton as stated in #15 of the attachment. <br />Mayor Hosterman supported the addition as stated in #16 to explore public/private <br />partnerships to clean up and improve the appearance of freeway on/off ramps at Foothill <br />Road and I-580 and other locations as needed. <br />Ms. Stern offered other suggestions to the language <br />Mayor Hosterman commented these were all good suggestions and thanked <br />Councilmember McGovern for working with staff on this. <br />Councilmember Sullivan referred to page 10-20, Goal 2, Policy 1, and suggested <br />language "to adopt an historic preservation ordinance." <br />Ms. Stern said there is a policy to adopt that in the conservation element. <br />Councilmember Sullivan referred to page 10-21, Policy 6, and suggested the wording <br />say, "Enhance the visual appearance and natural condition of the Arroyos." Also under <br />that Policy, he requested adding something about working with Zone 7 on the Stream <br />Management Master Plan projects that have been identified. On page 10-25 at the <br />bottom it says, "Maintain and enhance the quality, character and distinctiveness of <br />residential neighborhoods". He requested a phrase such as "protect neighborhood <br />character" which he did not see in the document. He suggested it say, "Protect and <br />maintain neighborhood character". <br />Councilmember Cook-Kallio preferred wording in terms of community character rather <br />than specific neighborhoods. <br />Councilmember Sullivan believed community character was different than neighborhood <br />character. His point was to include the word "protect." He stated that he supported Ms. <br />City Council Minutes 2 January 30, 2007 <br />
