<br />2c. Oaths of Office <br /> <br />Assemblyman Alberto Torico administered the Oath of Office to Councilmember-elect <br />Cheryl Cook-Kallio and presented her with a Certificate of Election. <br /> <br />City Clerk Diaz administered the Oath of Office to Councilmember Jerry Thorne and <br />Mayor Hosterman and presented them with a Certificate of Election. <br /> <br />2d. Remarks by: Mayor Hosterman and Councilmembers Cook-Kallio & Thorne <br /> <br />Councilmember Cook-Kallio thanked Assemblyman Alberto Torico for taking time to <br />swear her in. She added that she ran for Council because she believes in government <br />and civic virtue and she thanked everyone who ran for Council and for Mayor. She <br />noted democracy depends on education and elections are an opportunity to inform and <br />invite participation. She thanked her campaign committee and the group who were <br />persistent in their encouragement for her to run for office. <br /> <br />Councilmember Thorne noted that during the campaign process he had the <br />opportunity to meet hundreds of people in the community. He commented that serving <br />the community in an elected position has its challenges and rewards. He thanked all <br />of the voters that allowed him the opportunity to continue to serve the community as a <br />councilmember and also extended special thanks to those that worked hard on his <br />campaigns. <br /> <br />Mayor Hosterman shared it has been an honor and a pleasure to serve the people of <br />Pleasanton over the last four years, but especially the last two years as the Mayor. <br />She noted it is challenging and not easy, but has thoroughly enjoyed serving the <br />community in many aspects having to do with advancing public policy which is best for <br />the citizens of Pleasanton. She said she has enjoyed forging many strong <br />relationships with the business community and with the surrounding region, including <br />the entire Bay Area and beyond. She thanked the voters for giving her this <br />opportunity. <br /> <br />Councilmember Sullivan congratulated and welcomed Mayor Hosterman and <br />Councilmembers Cook-Kallio and Thorne. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGovern welcomed Council member Cook-Kallio, and congratulated <br />Mayor Hosterman and Councilmember Thorne. She also thanked Councilmember <br />Brozosky for his service. <br /> <br />2e. Presentation by Cynthia Bryant Pleasanton Poet Laureate: Cynthia Bryant <br />recited a poem entitled "Point of View". <br /> <br />The Council recessed to a break at 7:47 p.m. and reconvened at 7:53 p.m. <br /> <br />2f.
