Discussion on whether to introduce a Fire Sprinkler Ordinance.

Jerry Iserson, Planning and Community Development Director introduced the
staff report noting the Planning Commission voted unanimously to have staff
develop an ordinance requiring fire sprinkler systems for new construction
including all new residential development, additions and retrofit to existing
residential units, and all new commercial construction. Staff recommends that
the City Council determine if there is interest in adding the proposed PMC
amendment for enhanced fire sprinkler requirements as recommended by the
Planning Commission to the FY 2005-2006 Work Plan and, if so, direct staff to
initiate a study regarding the issues. Altematively, the Council may wish to
consider this decision along with other City projects as part of its consideration
of the 2007-2008 Work Plan and staff priorities.

Councilmember McGovern noted how full the City Council's workload currently
is and questioned additional items being placed on the current work plan.

City Manager Fialho indicated that Council and Staff's workload is extremely full
and believed that this issue should be placed for consideration on the 2007/08
work plan.

Motion: It was m/s by BrozoskylThome to direct staff to place the Fire Sprinkler
Ordinance item on the 2007/08 work plan for review and consideration.
