<br />Ms. McGovern stated her reservations about the City's involvement and the uncertainty <br />of hidden risks; she commented that the maintenance could be large, especially if it moves from <br />pioneer to a more park-like setting; she believes the City should be assisting in some way, <br />perhaps with the veterans, pioneer groups, museum, for example a special event; she stated <br />that she was not ready to support without further information. <br /> <br />Mayor Hosterman agreed with the Council; she stated that there are liabilities but she <br />recognized the importance of the property to Pleasanton. Ms. Hosterman suggested that <br />opportunities for partnering be explored, potential funding sources for maintaining the cemetery. <br /> <br />Mr. Brozosky stated that he would like to exercise options to find partners, to preserve <br />the historical aspect, to maintain it as a pioneer cemetery, and he would like staff to identify how <br />the project might be managed and the costs associated with the projecl. <br /> <br />Mr. Fialho suggested an acquisition plan. <br /> <br />Mr. Thorne requested staff to return with a business plan. <br /> <br />Mr. Fialho suggested staff develop the business plan, then return with an acquisition <br /> <br />plan. <br /> <br />Mr. Sullivan identified several outstanding issues; stated that it was worthy to pursue, but <br />many questions should be first answered, including clarification on the timeline. <br /> <br />Mayor Hosterman stated her interest in preservation of the site, but that staff needs to <br />conduct research first. <br /> <br />Ms. McGovern commented that the cost of the project may eventually become large. <br />She would like to see a budge developed, projects bid; she was willing to consider cleaning up <br />the front and the streetscape of the property. <br /> <br />Mr. Brozosky asked what the lowest risk alternative might be. <br /> <br />Mr. Fialho stated that a business plan should be developed and then a discussion with <br />the Council. <br /> <br />Ms. McGovern requested geotechnical analysis be included; she would also like a <br />discussion with the Odd Fellows to perhaps create an endowmenl. <br /> <br />Mr. Fialho stated that there is $45,000 available in a fund for long-term maintenance of <br />the cemetery, <br /> <br />Mr. Sullivan stated that the issue was not on the list of priorities and that it was not as <br />urgent as other items. <br /> <br />Mr. Brozosky commented on his frustration with the timing on the issue. <br /> <br />It was moved by Mr. Brozosky, seconded by Mr. Thorne, to direct staff to initiate a <br />business plan that assumes acquisition of the cemetery as a Pioneer Cemetery with <br />minimal investment initially and long-term expansion, addressing operating revenues <br /> <br />Pleasanton City Council <br />Minutes <br /> <br />6 <br /> <br />05/02106 <br />
