<br /> Mayor Hosterman invited public comments. <br /> Mike Madden, President of the PDA, said owners and managers of many retail <br /> businesses located off Main Street believed they were at a disadvantage and believed <br /> additional signage was a necessary component to their success. The PDA's Retail Side Street <br /> Signage Committee (RSSSC) visited other communities for examples of permanent off-site <br /> signs to identify businesses within a downtown area. Through the work of the RSSSC and with <br /> input from City staff, the PDA has developed two design options for consideration by the <br /> Council. He encouraged Council to support Option 1 as the preferred design. <br /> Michael O'Callaghan, PDA Boardmember, asked Council to support the PDA's <br /> endeavor. <br /> Mayor Hosterman closed the public comments. <br /> It was moved by Ms. McGovern, seconded by Mr. Brozosky, to approve Option 2 <br /> (Attachment B as attached to the staff report) as the preferred sign design. <br /> Ms. McGovern indicated her interest in pursuing illuminating the first four signs. <br /> Mr. Fialho believed $3,400 was a rough estimate and the cost could be more which is <br /> why he suggested lighting fixtures on poles that already have electricity. If Council decided to <br /> pursue this as a project in the future, staff could build it into the Capital Improvement Program. <br /> Ms. McGovern believed it was easier to illuminate the signs at the time the signs were <br /> originally installed. <br /> The roll call vote was taken as follows: <br /> AYES: Councilmembers - Brozosky, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, and <br /> Mayor Hosterman <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> ABSTAINED: None <br /> It was moved by Ms. McGovern to illuminate the first four signs. <br /> The motion died due to a lack of a second. <br /> Mr. Brozosky asked if there would be a cost savings in illuminating the signs initially as <br /> opposed to later. <br /> Mr. Fialho said the costs associated with this activity are unique and the costs might be <br /> substantially more than $3,500 per unit. <br /> Mr. Brozoskyasked if temporary lighting could be provided. <br /> Mr. Fialho said a temporary downward reflecting light could be installed on the pole. <br /> Pleasanton City Council 28 10/18105 <br /> Minutes <br />
