In response to an inquiry by Mr. Sullivan. Mr. Bocian noted that if Council were
interested in pursuing Option 4, staff would work with the Pleasanton Weekly to design and
establish a standard display format and a predetermined location in the paper. He pointed out
that this would not impact the mailed notices that are distributed to residents.
Mr. Brozosky believed using the Pleasanton Weekly for publication of meeting notices
was a more effective outlet for notifications as a majority of the community reads this paper.
There were no public comments.
It was moved by Mr. Thorne, seconded by Mr. Brozosky, to award an agreement to
publish the City's legal notices for the 20OS-06 fiscal year to The Valley Times and
approve Option 4 amending the City's current practice of publishing meeting notices.
Mr. Sullivan believed the City needed a better notification system and not less. He
suggested retaining the current practice including using Channel 30 as a means for displaying
general meeting notices.
Ms. McGovern said she could support Option 4 but believed there are times when items
of major concern and solicitations should be published in the Valley Times.
Mr. Fialho asked if Ms. McGovern was suggesting that the City's significant important
meetings such as workshops should be advertised in the Pleasanton Weekly and the Valley
Times.
Ms. McGovern said yes.
Ms. McGovern offered an amendment to the motion to include using the Valley
Times to publish major items or solicitations, such as workshops and commission
vacancies.
Mr. Thorne accepted the amendment to the motion.
Mayor Hosterman noted that Council could revisit this issue if it received concerns from
the community.
Mr. Bocian mentioned staff would inform Council if it were unsuccessful in its attempts to
work with the Pleasanton Weekly to establish a standard display format and a predetermined
location in the paper.
The roll call vote was taken as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Brozosky, McGovern, Thorne, and Mayor Hosterman
NOES: Council member Sullivan
ABSENT: None
ABSTAINED: None
Pleasanton City Council 28 1 0/04/05
Minutes
