29.
Fundina for Tri-Vallev Business Council. (SR 05:272)
Mr. Fialho presented the staff report.
Ms. McGovern pointed out this fiscal year, the City of Livermore has given $25,000 to
support the Business Council and the Town of Danville has provided $10,000. The City of
Dublin has given the Business Council $10,000 and has indicated that it may consider allocating
an additional $15,000 if equal funding is provided by the Cities of Pleasanton and San Ramon
and the Town of Danville. She wanted Council to decide if it believed $10,000 was the
appropriate amount to contribute and wait to see if the City of Dublin and the Town of Danville
provided $25,000.
Mr. Fialho said the City of Livermore has contributed $25,000 and the City of Dublin has
made the proposal to contribute $10,000 with the option of $25,000 if the other cities follow suit.
The City of San Ramon is waiting to see what other cities do, which is why he was not a
proponent of recommending that Pleasanton contribute $10,000. While the Town of Danville is
a part of the Tri-Valley, the Town's philosophy is that it does not gain significantly from this joint
effort and Danville's view has been to contribute $10,000.
Mr. Brozosky asked what type of pressure could be applied to get the City of Dublin to
contribute an equal amount?
Mr. Fialho said as soon as Pleasanton takes the lead, the Cities of Dublin and San
Ramon would follow suit.
There were no public comments.
Ms. McGovern favored following Dublin's action.
Mr. Sullivan believed someone needed to provide the lead first. He suggested that
Council contribute $10,000 to the Business Council now and after the Executive Roundtable in
November if the Executive Committee decided it was something that should be done, Council
could then make a final decision to contribute $15,000.
Ms. McGovern concurred with Mr. Sullivan's suggestion.
Mr. Brozosky believed the direction made sense and Council needed to decide if this
information was valuable to Pleasanton and then decide whether it supported the Business
Council and provide funding. He could agree to approve an allocation of $25,000 at this point.
Mayor Hosterman was agreeable to funding the full $25,000 for the sake of moving
forward with this effort. If Council were not able to reach this point, she would be agreeable to
approve an allocation of $10,000 and withhold $15,000 pending the Executive Roundtable in
November.
Pleasanton City Council 24 1 0/04/05
Minutes
