welcomes the new downtown dining establishment and looks forward to more dining
choices. As a small business owner, he supports other small business owners who are
investing and growing their businesses. He appreciated the cooperation of the Planning
Commission and the applicant, who compromised to address neighborhood concerns.
As a Chamber Director, he supports this proposed use. An empty, historic building will
be restored and the downtown community will grow, and local commerce and tax
revenue will increase. He pointed out that the shared vision for Pleasanton includes an
attractive and vibrant downtown. He encouraged Council to keep working towards this
vision.

Mick Hanou, a Pleasanton resident, supported the project and believed the
Oddfellows British Pub and Restaurant will enhance the community.

David Cannon, a Pleasanton resident, supported this project. He believed this
establishment would enhance the community and provide an additional eating
establishment in Pleasanton.

Corinne Agurkis, a Pleasanton resident, was excited about the renovation of a
building in the downtown, which is currently an eye sore. She noted that there are very
few eating establishments in the downtown that are open after 9 p.m. As a single
individual, she would welcome an establishment that is open after 10 p.m. to frequent
where she would feel safe and comfortable.

Vicki Salinas, a Pleasanton resident, spoke in favor of this project. She would
frequent this establishment, particularly after attending the theater, as there is no eating
establishment that is open after 10 p.m. She believed the members of this community
should not have to go to another city to find an eating establishment open after 10 p.m.
She noted that Pleasanton is a great community and needs to grow with its community
members.

Frances Stone, a Pieasanton resident, noted that she lives four doors down from
the proposed business. She said she is opposed to this project in a residential
neighborhood and expressed concern about parking, noise and loitering. She noted that
the climate changes in the evening and it impacts the neighborhood.

Vanessa Kawaiahu, a Happy Valley resident speaking for Colleen Close, a
Pleasanton resident, said that Ms. Close and her friends have very few restaurants in
the downtown that they can frequent. Ms. Close and her friends would go to the
Oddfellows British Pub and Restaurant and would welcome the opportunity to frequent a
place where they can feel safe and comfortable. Ms. Close hopes that Council approves
this project as she feels it will be a safe place for young women.

Anne Fox, a Pleasanton resident, noted that when the Planning Commission first
approved this project, it did not include a live entertainment component or a dance floor.
The new application includes live entertainment with a band and a dance floor, which will
take place on the weekends from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. She pointed out the differences
between the proposed Oddfellows British Pub and Restaurant location in Pleasanton
and the Crown Pub location in Danville. She noted that whenever there has been a
proposed plan that contains a nightclub component or live entertainment for the
downtown, the Conditional Use Permit has been revoked, particularly when it is
bordering a residential area. She asked Council to review the application and

Pleasanton City Council 17 02/01/05
Minutes
