(SR 04:301)

Jacqui Diaz, Assistant to the City Manager, presented the staff report.

Mr. Brozosky asked if the Service Club is responsible for bringing the recyclables
to the recycle station?

Ms. Diaz said the recycling containers would be located throughout the school
campus and then hauled into one location for the Pleasanton Garbage Service to pick up
on a regular basis.

Mr. Brozosky asked if the grant is paying for the equipment or the operations?
Ms. Diaz said that the grant is able to pay for the actual containers.

Ms. McGovern asked staff if it had applied for a grant at a specific site so that
another $18,000 could be provided if another school wanted to participate?

Ms. Diaz said this is a formula grant and each City is given an allotment. The
State informs the City as to the amount it is given. Each City may create a program
within its community as to how to utilize these funds. She noted that a requirement of
receiving the grant is to provide the State with solid recycled data within one year.

There were no public comments.

It was moved by Me. McGovern, seconded by Mr. Sullivan, to direct staff to
implement a beverage recycling program at Pleasenton school sites and to
appropriate $18,595 in 2004-05 grant funds received from the California State
Department of Conservation's Division of Recycling.

Pleasanton City Council 18 12/07/04
Minutes
