Mr. Brozosky noted that in the original application, PeopleSoft was given
approval to place its own sign on this location. Based on this approval, he believed that
PeopleSoft could take down the existing sign and replace it with its own sign.

Mr. Swift said that PeopleSoft could remove the existing sign and have a new
sign constructed.

In response to an inquiry by Mr. Brozosky, Mr. Swift said that the sign is located
on PeopleSoft's property.

Ms. Hosterman believed it was important for the public to know that the Zoning
Administrator makes decisions on a number of these items that do not require Council
input. The Zoning Administrator's report for this particular matter stated that PeopleSoft
would like to replace its name on a sign on what appeared to her to be identifying
Hacienda Business Park. She objected to this as she is concerned with the direction in
which the City is going in with regard to signage throughout Pleasanton, particularly
having any one corporation utilize its name in such a large way to identify Pleasanton.
She objects to the corporatization of Pleasanton, and based upon the brief description in
the Zoning Administrator's report, she appealed this matter. She noted that the staff
report makes it absolutely clear and includes more information as to the purpose for the
sign design review application submitted by PeopleSoft. Now that she has all of the
information, she does not have a problem with the approval of PeopleSoft's sign design
application. She noted that she has a concern with sign design applications in general,
and any time these applications are submitted, she will ask to be given the opportunity to
take a closer look at them.

Mr. Brozosky asked if the Planning Commission originally appealed the Zoning
Administrator's decision?

Mr. Swift said that the Planning Commission upheld the Zoning Administrator's
decision after it was appealed by the Planning Commission.

Mayor Pico noted that he met with representatives from PeopleSoft and reviewed
its plans for the sign.

Mayor Pico declared the public hearing open.

Anthony Alfano, 4500 PeopleSoft Parkway, representing the applicant on its
Pleasanton and Denver campuses, noted that he had agreed with staff's suggestion for
additional landscaping. He thanked Council for its consideration in the matter.

Mayor Pico appreciated PeopleSoft being a corporate citizen within the
Pleasanton community. He supported PeopleSoft and its efforts.

Pleasanton City Council 9 06/15/04
Minutes
